Are you still using the 3-direction strategy? Seems to work best. It's funny when, after playing for a while, you make a move in the fourth direction. Very disorienting!

Yes, I'm still sticking with that strategy for now to see how far it takes me.

ETA: and even within that I use left and right arrows the most and try and be very selective about when I use the up arrow. I just watched myself and I've realized that is probably not really accurate!!

I'm trying to follow the same strategy as much as possible.

Just be careful and avoid the space key, it resets the game :(.

What a curiously annoying little game.

Yay, 14208 and with one 1024 piece that's only half way through.
This game was invented by the Borg.

Your turn, Penny :-).

I found that "throwing" the numbers upward works well, but every once in a while, you have to move things down and you get a 2 stuck up there.

21 THOUSAND? Is that for real?

Yeah, after probably a good 3 hours wasted (different tries on different days, of course), and after getting the 2048 tile (it lets you keep going, though I didn't get far after that).

I did it! I got the 2048 tile, at a score of 21,232. It just all fell together fast at the end. As George says, it lets you keep going so I'm going to keep that window open and see where if goes later.

I worked at keeping the numbers in the first row and also the first column always descending in value (not necessarily the "next" one down, just lower), and I think that helped a lot, particularly at the end when multiple doublings occurred in the first row.

I tell ya, Penny's AWESOME at this kind of stuff. It's been a treat watching her develop a theory, devise a plan of attack, hone it, fully implement it, and finally SUCCEED :-) Awesome work, sweetie!

I'm completely hopeless at it. I can't see the methodology of how it pops up numbers or where, so I just click along and see what happens. I never even know where I am making moves on the board. But it looks like fun!

The moves apply to the whole board, eg you press the right arrow and everything scoots over to the right, and any new number will pop up somewhere among the blank square left on the left. For that reason I try and keep the top row filled, so that I don't run the risk of a 2 or a 4 getting popped into the top row right next to my "high" number, whatever that currently is.

I had the top row lined up nicely with a 1024, 512 and 256, but couldn't close the deal.

Ok... We've had a competition here in our house for the last few days. I'm sad to report that she has won.

I do dare you to beat her though. :D
