Err.. what the hell? Why wouldn't she have taken care of that before? Skin doesn't grow like that overnight.

It's also on the right hand, so it wouldn't be a wedding ring.

Regardless, it's pretty frickin' nasty. It's amazing what people will let go until it reaches an extreme, like this.

Unless its for a custom I am not familiar with (not unlikely) or the image has been inverted -- wedding rings are not worn on the right hand. So it could just be cheap costume jewelry, which is commonly that size or larger. I suppose it could be her husbands band -- it is not uncommon for girls to wear their guys' ring on their right hand.

But I have to agree -- why didn't she get it taken care of before now? Of course, my grandmother had worn her wedding ring so long that she couldn't take it off anymore by the time I was old enough to know what it was -- so it is possible she couldn't take it off.

In Europe and Australia wedding rings are frequently worn on the right hand.

Things like this actually do happen. As an individual gains weight, or has swelling to the hands, tissue from the hand will actually start to grow around a ring on the finger. It's the body's way of dealing with an invading body.

Very cool shot. :) Now watch all the medical types start talking about how cool this is.

Gotta remember the U.S. isn't the only place on Earth. :-)

The US is the only place I've seen wedding rings worn on the left hand.

Italy is still in Europe, isn't it? Everyone I know in Italy wears their wedding ring on their left hand. Afterall, that is the side that the heart is on.

Maybe in England they wear it on their right hand. Then again, they also drive on the wrong side of the road. ;)

Here in the Netherlands, which is also Europe :-) catholics wear their wedding ring left (like the Italians), most others wear it right (but left if they want to wear as an engagement ring first).

Ahhh the wonders of photoshop. Reminiscent of the SCUBA diver clinging to a helicopter ladder as a Great White shark lunged through the air.

They're fun to look at, but is just ludicrous to pass on as non-fiction.

The custom of wearing the ring on the left hand came from the ancient Greeks. They believed that there was an artery that went from the left ring finger directly to the heart.

I wonder if that would work for another part of the male anatomy... ;)lol
