Thx. I have been looking at 1GB cards.

Do you know how this compares in speed to the Lexar 40x or 80x cards? (Real world performance? Reliability?)

The 80x Lexar is only about $128 from an Amazon partner, but then there's shipping and taxes.

Thanks! I hadn't found that site, and it answers the question nicely. And a wealth of other goodies to read later.

Hi all, thought I would share this forewarning:

A co-worker purchased a pair of the ultra2 sandisk 2gb cfs from buy.com a month and a half ago and still has not received the items...he was promised a 'great purchase price' of something like $150each...when he called CS they told him that the website waits till they meet a certain prepurchased threshold before buying the cards in bulk and finally delivering the goods to you...so beware and read their wording, if it says something to the effect of 'in stock soon' or 'on order' you'll prolly be waiting quite a bit....

:(

B&H Photo is selling the Sandisk 1GB Ultra-II for $99.95.

I don't want to have their babies, but they are very trustworthy.

the speeds of the flash cards can only be fully used if your camera is capable of using the speed, if its not - you're wasting your money on speed you can't use.

I could be wrong here and if I was this is all moot. It reminds me when I still had my Rebel and I was shopping for a CF card. I don't remember whether Vistek told me it was lexar 80x or the Twinmos 80x that would not work with the rebel. They say it will work but you're not getting the speed they claim the cards is capable of getting. Something to ask the vendor just to verify that the cards and speed actually work with your camera.

while this may be true in camera, keep in mind that if you throw the card into a fast card reader, you'll also see improvements in transfer speed to your PC.

Thanks for the heads up guys and gals. I had no idea 1GB cards had dropped so low. I just ordered the Sandisk UltraII 1GB from B&H this evening. A few months ago I got a 512MB Lexar 40X Pro from B&H and it was $119.00!!!!!!! Damn technology prices are constantly shifting!

Wow, I didn't even know 8GB cards existed!

That 2GB card at Costco costs less than the 1GB Ultra II I just bought on Aug 24. I have word from a decent source that this is the beginning of a substantial glut of memory cards coming available in the Christmas season.
