I think people missed the description bit, I started at 4.6 and have steadily crept back up to just a 6.0

It seems like you are talking of a few photos during voting, aren't you? Is there a way to give a name to xxx(x)scape? No.

Both OED and Websters have separate definitions for 'landscape' and 'seascape' so they have most definitely been given different genres. Rules is rules and I do not think seascapes have any place when the theme is landscape unless It is specifically stated that they are allowable.

Ok, of course an Italian can't teach you another language.

Next challenge suggestion: xxx(x) scape, or if you prefer groundscape.

I guess DPC voters have a broader idea of the meaning of landscape then those dictionaries ……and I’m happy to see that!

I'm not knocking that, but where do you draw the line? Does a challenge for 'glass' also include plastic or a challenge for 'fabric' include all the building blocks of the universe? I guess it's down to the individual to make an informed decision and my own thoughts on this particular challenge is that an empty sea depicting 'minimalism' is a cop out.

I am NOT entered into this challenge... however:

The title of the challenge is "Minimalist Landscape" (and then some roman numeral).

It should be minimalistic in interpretation and fit the word landscape. Technically this is any photo that is longer than it is taller in terms of orientation. A shot of the land or the sea would certainly qualify.

Looking to the description for clarification (which everyone should do for every challenge) we see "Find a simple, uncluttered, natural vista and give it your best shot."

"vista" means view... so find a simple, uncluttered NATURAL (eliminates urban buildings, etc.), VIEW. Again a shot of the land or the sea would certainly qualify.

Now of all of those who also thought that seascapes should be included and now find that they are in agreement with me, then I apologize. I hope it's not too stressful for you.

So if a seascape isn't a landscape, what about a lakescape? Or a riverscape ? Where do you the draw the line? How much water is too much to take the land out of the scape?

I don't know about the land versus sea thing, but I have a phenomenal score and I really do not know how that happened.

Carry on.

All H2O is rock hard and covered with snow in the mountains of Colorado. We are a high elevation desert and probably will be until May.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I gave you a high score because I thought Wendy took it.

Ah! That explains that "Great shot, Wendy!" comment you left! (You were the first one to leave a comment, by the way! Thanks!)
