Yes they are (normally)... but the challenge never said that the entirety of the photo submitted had to be the album cover -- just that you should create an album cover. Which I did do, but decided to use it as part of a narrative.

Couldn't make this point during voting for obvious reasons. :)

And that's just one example. :)

Ok, we can search every kind of exceptions, but 95% of album covers are square and that's a fact ;)

True... but regardless, I don't think we're to call out specific image(s) during voting... talking generically about DNMC is one thing (since DNMC is subjective and up to each voter), but saying "I'm voting down all the non-square ones" is calling out the ones that aren't square. Same as if you said all the ones with four-eyed puppies or any other objective criteria.

Only at dpc would this issue merit such a long discussion.

Next on the list:
Is the sky blue? Are 8-track tapes rectangular, or should we call them "brick-shaped"?

LOL well I thought my image was an easy 6.5 and it's been no higher than 5.1!! Only 2 comments, one really hits the nail on the head, the other mistakes it for another member's work. Which in this case is a compliment :-)

And yep the more I am here the more I realize how little I know about photography and more importantly, PS. Frustrating at times in terms of scores, but a very valuable resource for anything relating to this (for me anyway) costly little hobby :-)

ETA: Oooh, I just got a VR...soooo scared....not!

Yes, I did go look at his profile after posting and realized my oops.

However, seeing that he has been dormant for most of those last 10 years, with the bulk of his entries taking place between 2006-2008, a few in 2009, and I believe one apiece in 2010 and 2013...well, yes. Seeing how much things have changed here in terms of rules, editing sets etc., he may as well be a noob.

And strictly fwiw I have been an active member for almost 8 years and have entered over 500 challenges.

Oh I am a noob, always will be. I dipped in and out for a while. But DPC is an excellent site and has taught me so much about photography and how to look at a photograph which in turn has taught me a lot in how to look through a lens. I still can't photoshop for peanuts.
I did take a while out but I aim to come back this year with a vengeance. Keep happy all.

Hmmn. Well, you're a noob, correct? And if you have a solid 6.3...well...from the looks of scores posted here, I'd say your probably in top 10. I've been here 8 years and am in the bottom 10. Cheer up.

I've been bottom ten a number of times. I am perfectly happy. :-). Not a bad score, but I like comments. Especially if it's not a bad score.
