But to be fair, according to my experience it is usually followed by a familiar rise towards the end of the voting.

I hope that's the case this time. Usually my score drops drastically the last few.

What a shocker. I'm now down to 5.79. That's a drop of 0.35 in the last 3 votes, which means those votes were probably 3, 3, 4.

just finished voting and have to say I am disappointed with the entries. Most are not really macro, and some not even indoors. What's the point of a challenge if people are just going to treat it as a free study? Challenges are meant to challenge us to step up and out of the box we keep ourselves in. It's part of how we learn and improve. No wonder DPC is losing interest for some.

I do not see anything that says it was taken outside, unless you think all flowers are outside and can not be inside. What do you consider macro? Some are borderline macro depending on your definition. Personally I believe 1:1 or greater is macro but the general definition (when I look at photos that people call a macro) is anything closeup. Also, not everyone has a true macro lens and consider closeup to be macro.

All I can say is express your discontent with your vote.

1:1 or greater is a true Macro. If you cannot shoot that, then just don't enter. There are plenty of challenges for people to enter. Not entering won't kill a person. I sit out on many if they are outside of what I have available to me. All I was pointing out was that this is more of a free study, and people are not challenging themselves. Just my humble opinion, and yes, the scores I gave on the non macro shots were taken down a point.

@ShutterPug, I hear what you're saying, but you can't really judge true macro on 800px because anyone can crop their image to look 1:1 or greater. Mine was 1:1 or maybe more, but the crop makes it look 1:0.5. Perhaps that's an even stronger argument for you though - even if you don't own a macro lens, you can still crop to get near 1:1 here.

@Tiberius, that's quite a solution! I just reverse mount my lenses with a 52mm to F-mount ring. Cost $2 or something on ebay. The 55-200 becomes about 130mm with capability of 1:1.8 or so and the zoom becomes the focus ring. Very nice to focus with! The 18-55 becomes a true macro lens. I get approximately 1:0.25 (6mm fills the frame left to right). The zoom also becomes a focus ring, but it's impractical to focus, so you have to pre-focus. I'm not sure what the focal length is though.

+1000

The previous macro challenges are replete with true DNMC even in the top 10.

Close up and fill the frame are not macro.

But the voters rarely pay attention to theme is the photo is pretty.

I was hoping for a bit of an higher score, but with the awesome comments the score can be whatever it wants. As long as one person sees what I see and appreciates it. It's all wroth it :)
