Let me just say, the "FINAL ENTRY" bit is important simply because it tells us which one of multiple posts from the photog we should be judging. So I'd like it to stay. Nothing wrong, however, with REPLACING the image in that file with a newer version, it's easy. I have a bit of apprehension about the idea that there may be dozens and dozens of entries drifting all over the thread and it may be hard to sort them out. It would be nice if we could do a final post containing thumbs of all the final entries before locking the thread, but if that's not gonna happen, at least titling them "FINAL ENTRY" helps us look in the right direction. Or maybe I'm worrying too much :-)

May I suggest that we just flag our official entry by prepending or appending the word "FINAL" (or even "FIN") to whatever title we're using?

As I noted previously, I don't suppose the title matters much - the worst that could happen is that you mildly annoy the judges.

The only real downside to non-standardized titles is the fact that then we start to, intentionally or not, judge works based upon their title, and I really am fairly committed to this being judged solely on the merit of the editing, so the greater regularity is somewhat favored in my mind.

With all of that being said, I will instruct the jury to consider all valid entries, including those with non-standard titles, since I really do mean it when I say I want the very best edit to win, regardless of everything else.

So there's my big advice - worry about the edit first and foremost, the quality and character of the resulting image will be the determining factor here, not your title of choice.

..

Now, you've got me curious Paul, why are you on about the title here? What problem have I missed, which you are now trying to solve?

My title only identifies the original and some hints as to the editing steps; it's not trying to be "inspirational".

Your originally-suggested title was just extremely long ... something like "FINAL-Cory's Hawk by GeneralE" might make more sense, since you're not maintaining photographer anonymity (probably more influential than a classy title).

Now, the one advantage of identical titles is that the judges can perform a photo search by title and have all the entries show up on one page, but you can do that with a shorter title or just some standard wording; if you did a search for "FINAL-Cory" the above suggested title should show up.

Congratulations to our finalists!

- MNet
- sempermarine
- aliqui
- alfresco

- JuliBoc

The jury is hard at work trying to find our deserving winner, but clearly all of these images really brought some serious skill and style to the game.

Well done everyone!

We are still waiting on one jury member who's apparently having a very difficult time choosing.. (due, I'm sure, to the number of extremely good edits...)

Anyway - it's a VERY tight race right now, and any of the finalists may well win it.
