Nice idea Mr Cory.

Had a look at that link you gave for JPG+RAW, only got an empty Google Drive page. Am I doing something wrong?

Hmm... I shared the individual files as well now.

Here's the direct link to the RAW..

Thanks for the heads-up!

TY Tiny! Hope you're gonna play!

(only one person gets the membership, but this should be fun for everyone who plays!)

Your link here goes to a JPEG file only. And I get the same google drive page trying to get anywhere from the original link.

Registered users can post their image to another "storage" site and then link to it here using the URL link in the thread, so they don't necessarily need a DPC "Member Sponsor". If they also post a thumbnail version they can use that in place of the text in the link -- this is easily done from sites like pBase, for example ...

Fixed

The Full size JPEG is available here on DPC, I'll just remove the other link in the thread and use that for RAW only.

While possible, it would be nice to keep things consistent for the jury.

Of course, all comers are welcome, so if this works better for you than having a member sponsor, then please, by all means, do post it this way. :D

take the 300kb as a target, the 800px as a rule.

So a little over 300kb would be tolerated?

Just a note for all participants:

You are welcome to re-edit your entry as many times as you would like, just please be sure that the tag "FINAL ENTRY" is present on your choice for judging by Jan 5.

In addition to the re-editing announcement, I'm happy to report that the jury is now fully formed!

Please join me in thanking Tiberius, MAK, Bear_Music posthumous, FocusPoint, vawendy and Alexkc for agreeing to make that super difficult call as to who's brought the best out of that rather challenging image. I think you'll agree that they're all experts, and I think those of you who know them will recognize that you'll need to not only bring the very best technicals, but also you'll have to really deliver on the character portion of this challenge as well.

I'm very impressed so far, honestly astonishing how awesome some of those are, and equally astonishing is how good all of them are. It's fun seeing how talented so many of you are, and seeing which direction your tastes pull you in.

Again, best of luck to all of you, at this rate the end result will be astonishing - thanks for playing!

Cory, it's kinda cool your doing this, Bravo..
I'll keep my place holder up from large JPEG, and start working on the Raw file, maybe learn something along the way.

I'm curious to see how this works out, when participants can see the other entries prior to their final submission ... I'd be tempted to post a really crappy placeholder image, but then I'd probably forget to replace it in time ... :-(

Dunno, I think everyone still has their own style and taste. Nothing wrong with gaining inspiration or technical hints from other entries.. Not like this doesn't happen in our regular challenges, it's just over a multi-challenge timescale, rather than a single challenge.. Besides, isn't the 'major' point of DPC to learn from each other? What better opportunity than this? The membership's value is far lower than the knowledge that can be gained from watching everyone edit this to their best. I know I've already found myself inspired and impressed.

I didn't say it was wrong, just different, and I want to see how it turns out; all of your points are well-taken.

Quite right, you did nothing of the sort! :D Fascinating isn't it?

I'm sure the jury is watching trends, and after all, imitation is the highest form of praise, so I wouldn't hesitate to present my best...

How else will we know it's your final entry and not waste our time debating interim edits? :-)

Why would you be considering the entries until the final deadline, at which point whatever is posted in the thread becomes "finalized"?

I mean, we're allowed to change up until the deadline -- I could submit my "final entry" now, and yet change my mind at the last minute. It doesn't seem right for the judges be considering preliminary entries for a long time, then be required to give the same consideration to someone's late "fial" entry.

To me it makes more sense to just lock the submission thread at the deadline, then you consider whatever's posted at that time.

That's not a bad plan. *shrug*

I suppose the other thing is that this is an editing challenge, so I don't really want the judges to be particularly worried about, or even noticing, the titles. I'd like the winner to win on sheer editing merit.

With that being said, I suppose I don't care that much about the title, so if you really must title it something else I don't see any reason why they wouldn't look past that...

Now, your suggestion of locking the thread? Excellent.. I'd like to have it locked at midnight server time at the end of Jan 5th.
