I will be photographing a 4 year old aspiring model/actress this weekend on location under less-than-ideal circumstances so I will need to modify the natural light. I have reflectors but what I really need is something to diffuse harsh sunlight. Has anybody built a quick/cheap diffusion panel or seen instructions for one?

What about a linen/bed sheet, hung over some hat stands or something?

Thanks, ghoti, I was just thinking about using a white or off white sheet held up by two light stands.

Also, a sheet of plastic can work as well. Create more layers to diffuse the light more.

Thanks, can you explain what you mean by a sheet of plastic? What type of plastic and where I can get it?

The sheets I'm referring to are dropsheets used for painting that you can get at any hardware store/Home Depot. They are quite large and can therefore be folded to create different levels of diffusion.

I built a large diffuser from PVC and went with the deb sheet thing...never thought of dropsheets! SWEET! thanks. Hell of alot cheaper and more versatile.
