Do you think she is ticked off?

The book on the spiral of wasteful and unaccountable government expenditure into a never ending black hole was written in Africa. Interesting to see that the good ol' USA is not much different, what with a $16,741,063,044,759.68 outstanding public debt, and counting, despite cries to the contrary. Another debt ceiling hike?

Right, so let's cut Food Stamps for the poor, taxes for the wealthy, and health insurance for everyone -- that'll fix the problem for sure ... :-(

I forgot -- let's shut down the government if we don't get out way.

OK -- how about starting by cutting some of Congress' tax-free perks? From what I understand they have a job and get paid (and paid and paid and paid ...), so maybe they can buy their own lunch like the rest of us.

$174k is a fair salary for congress. ...IF we multiply it by their approval rating (recently hovering around 10%)

I'm not so concerned about their salary (even though it's higher than 97% of American earners), but all the other stuff (I read about in that article) which costs millions more ...

You should be concerned about ALL of it, but I get your point.

I know you've argued against term limits, but I have been looking for / waiting for a non-partisan / bipartisan campaign to just flat-out clean house - VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS in the next two or three election cycles. Any thoughts on that? With their current performance record as a group, I believe throwing out the bathwater AND the baby is the best option - it certainly cannot do any more harm than what we've seen for the past several decades.

If the Republicans in the House shut down the governement because they can't take away my/our ability to get health insurance and for the working poor to feed their kids it may happen sooner than you think.

First, it's not going to happen. Second, if it could happen, we'd get a new bunch that would be just as susceptible to the perverse incentive structure that's in place and driving the bad behaviors.

If you want to make a meaningful change, shorten the campaign cycle and get big money out of politics. Citizens United must be overturned, and there are people working on that (if folks wanted to actually do something, as opposed to just complaining).

Exactly. There are a handful of very powerful, rich men picking every candidate and mandating what they stand for. Take away that ability and you will start getting people elected who actually do want to do good for the country instead of lining their pockets.

One minor correction to her rant: Social Security is not bankrupt. It's now operating in the red (paying out more money than it takes in), but it will be solvent for several decades to come, and it's the easiest safety-net program to fix.
