We're going on vacation next week, and I'd prefer not to haul a laptop. I have an iPad mini, and I bought the camera connection kit (and the adapter to use an SD card in my CF card using camera). I installed the Aviary photo editing app, which lets me edit the photo nicely, but not resize. So, I installed another app, called SimpleResize, that lets me get it down to DPCs 800 pixel limit. Almost there!

Anyone know of an app that let's me save it under 300k?

Does someone have other suggestions for a better workflow?

This photo:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/1000-1999/1776/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1074876.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/1000-1999/1776/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1074876.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Was completely edited on my iPad (using Snapseed) and uploaded via my iPad. Was not sure if it would work (seeing how we can't vote via the iPad), but it uploaded just fine. I did not resize (was a slight crop from the original so well above the 800px limit), or reduce file size at all.

So, when you upload for a challenge, does the photo automatically get reduced to 800px and 300k?

I am assuming that it did, not 100% sure but believe I did nothing to reduce size because I was seeing if it would work. I have slept sense then so not 100% sure. My iPad is dead at the moment so can not test it on a current challenge, but will try when it gets enough power to turn on.

I just took a photo that I uploaded to my iPad from my camera and submitted it with no problem. The photo was a strait from camera JPG, so is well over the file size and dimension requirements.

yeah, i think entries that are larger get auto-sized to 800px and 300kb.

also, i can vote on my ipad. not sure if the mini ipads allow it though.

You may post the image to your workshop at any size you like. Then enter the workshop image into the challenge and it gets resized to fit. I do it all the time now. You can try it with any image taken with any camera.

I have uploaded several challenge entries from my ipad during trips directly without going via workshop. I didn't have to watch the size in pixels or kb .... Apparently the pictures got resized automatically.. However, the originals were accompanying small size jpgs of raw files.
The iPad was used to store the raw files and I just used the small size jpgs as challenge entries, slightly edited and cropped a bit with snap seed usually.
I guess the edited files had about 1000 pixels max, so the auto resize wasn't too drastic to worry about it!

Ah Ha! As a test, I uploaded a 1651x1492, 1.08mb file to the Free Study, and then when I looked at the properties of the file on the web site, it was magically 800*692 and 266k. And I didn't need to go through the Workshop, even though that works, too.

I think I can leave the old clunker home.

Whoa!.... For reals?

I have resized and compressed on the iPad. The resizing is easy, if your software handles it. Saving for size has been hit and miss. If all I need to do is upload to my workshop and then copy to the challenge submission, that makes a world of difference in ease of use.

No need to do that. Can just upload the full size photo and it will resize and compress for you. Super easy.
