Snip snip snip - got bored after the first few paragraphs so didn't read the rest of it - I am sure you had some brilliant points though - however my paypal address is gabbygall@gmail.com - a beer is actually cheaper than a coffee so $5 should cover it - CHEERS!!!!

If you want a congratulatory slap on the back for your past achievements, Workshops and hand holding newbies when Langdon was still very active I'll Pay Pal you a coffee or a beer.

Whatever for... people in this instance are merely expressing their views and dissatisfaction. No ranting as far as I can see.

It's a divisive discussion down the same overly worn tracks to the same non-conclusion; but I asked for it to be moved to Rant because it's my strong opinion that discussing which members have or have not contributed to the site, talk of the founder and site owner lining his pockets, and the patronizing tone and bitterness in just the last few posts are items that are better off as "members only."

There's a lot of talk about evangelizing DPC and generating interest, but if someone had checked out the site for the first time in the last few days, this thread would be at or near the top of the forums, which is not only a bad first impression, but a poor representation of what this community is. I don't think it's appropriate.

Nobody has been tricked into thinking they were going to get more than they did when they registered as a user or paid for membership. In fact, this community provides exactly the opposite, as the rewards from participation in this site far exceed anything promised.

If people want to complain about this site having been fantastic but then not changing along with them as they have grown, well I can understand how they as an individual can feel let down, but I find it troubling that they enjoy periodically (coincidentally when this topic comes up) logging in to accuse the folks who have better managed their expectations as somehow being stupid for participating in the site.

I personally find it to be in poor taste, but more importantly for the site, and why I asked for it to be moved to Rant, is that I don't think it's appropriate for this to be a front-page story for any and all to see.

As best I know, the /rant forum is not limited to members only.

FWIW, I reported your post (just so SC would get a message, nothing sinister) and expressed my support for the idea of moving it off to /rant...

Rant's off by default. You have to register for the site to turn it on in preferences.

Right -- I just checked this out. It doesn't show up on the front page if you are not logged-in or just navigate to the site from somewhere else -- to see the Rant section you'd have to go look for it.

But anyway, I see that it's been moved already ...

Worth going back a few posts for... If you don't laugh at Jason's comment, you honestly might want to see a doctor about your sense of humor.

(The three posts before his are kinda crucial to the joke though)

...worse, it's contagious. I know I caught it at the GTG in Seattle a few years back. :O)

the future of dpc:

a red landscape of heat, sand and rocks... red rocks, red sky...

every tuesday, thursday and sunday another challenge appears, "Fire CCXI" "Fire CCXII" "Fire CCXIII"

GeneralE wins the blue ribbon in almost every challenge, except sometimes when Cory enters. Nobody else enters. 5 or 6 lurkers will vote. Cory and GeneralE debate challenge results and politics in the forums. Art will occasionally chew popcorn or make jokes....

Cory says Langdon will be back any minute, on a skiff from Avalon...

Bear Music is finally on the Site Council...

This sounds nearly apocalyptic

Depends on the size of your waitress.

I've kept my eye on membership numbers as the site slowly dies and each time this conversation comes up. DPC has bled another 150 members and is at 850. It seems to be slowing, but the decline is certain. In December, 2009 it was 1953. On March 6th, 2013 it stood at 1006. Today it is 850.

Seriously right, I have been here as long as the next person and while I do enjoy the site I tend to 'support' it these days. The TPL and other adventures have been interesting enough but what is really needed is a total facelift, fewer challenges that are geared more towards PHOTOGRAPHY with respect, I can do the photoshop thing but prefer the capture. We need bigger file size and at least 1000x1000 this is 2014/5 FFS! (thanks for the edit Paul).

I would gladly welcome, and pay extra for the facelift because it will attract new and old members back and get the old kitchen smelling of curry once again and hot coffee and good chat.

i am very willing to do whatever it takes as a long standing member here to make improvements but it must be done, and soon. I await the 'flogging a dead horse' icons, we can take the piss wonderfully and readily but can we think of ways to get the site back on track.?

I re-read this thread and agree that the best of DPC is behind us but I totally ALSO think the best can lay ahead of us with a little effort and maybe a bit of extra cash. We are a great community that pulls together and moves mountains, I have been moved to tears to see what we can do to help each other financially as well as emotionally, well, guess what....

The house needs some cash and love, are we ready to do this? are we ready to put the injection of cash needed to update the site? and then the other option is over to Langdon, he may be too busy with life but I am sure he would be willing to see his baby grow, it just takes someone to get the ball rolling and find the catalyst needed.

As I say, anything I can do to help I am willing to do...

Regardless of that if nothing is done I will be one of the last to leave this sinking ship.

I still think there'll be a lot of us being the last to leave... But the point is we need new members, or bring back old ones, or preferably both.
