Hope to be in England for a couple of week sometime over the next couple of months. London for a few days and "The North." Would value suggestions of "must see" places in the North and target rich photo opportunities.

Thanks.

Lake District?

Depends on what type of 'must see' you are after of course. 'The North' is quite a varied place really.

Not only varied but covers quite an extensive area too. Did you have any specific ideas? Several of the UK's National Parks (including the Lake District) are in the North of England. Also some major cities - are you looking for an urban or rural experience? North West and North East both have very different coastal landscapes.

Depends exactly where you mean but..... I had a blast in Blackppol & Caernarfon castle area earlier in the year.

Yes it really depends where you are going.
I love the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England.
As mentioned "the North is a bit vague.

I should point out that if you go looking for Caernarfon castle in the north of England then you've taken a wrong turn somewhere as it's in Wales.

Just make sure you don't go north of The Wall. There is nothing up there but Wildlings, Frost Giants and Glasgow.

Yeah ok - fair point... So this thread is a waste of time without some info......

Nah, not really. We've had some suggestions. Blackpool is great. as you said, and there are a few national parks and major cities. Yorkshire Dales, Lake District. Lots to see and do in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle. Also plenty of smaller towns and villages. I like Whitby, for example, famous for its Bram Stoker/Dracula connections. York is a beautiful city, that's well worth a visit.

THANKS everyone.

Plans beginning to take shape: Maybe some time around York, Fountain Abby, Harrogate, Ripen; maybe some time up around Holy Isle and the Eastern shores and across to the west along Hadrian's Wall; maybe some time in the Lakes District.

Regarding the North being a bit vague ... as you travel north from London - I've seen signs saying "The North." I assume they were put in place by well meaning tourist bureau folks. After a theatre fix in London we're headed "North."

North of the Wall - been there, done that, got the T-Shirt. Not the experience we're after. Although, I confess some interest in Wildlings, Frost Giants.

I truly appreciate your suggestions. thanks. Please keep them coming.

If you've got a couple of weeks then you'll have quite an amount of time to devote to shooting. All of the suggestions we've seen are good ones, and I'd add places like the Yorkshire Dales, the Pennine Moors, Padworth Gorge, Holmfirth (especially for those Last of the Summer Wine devotees), the Snake Pass or the Woodhead pass, both of which run between Manchester and Sheffield. If you're into landscapes then the countryside is very different 'up North' from that 'down South'. There's much more moorland, generally much bleaker than somewhere like the South Downs, for example.

I have to admit to being very jealous - I was brought up in the North but emigrated to Ontario before I discovered a love of landscape photography. Ah, missed opportunities.
