U.S. preps for possible cruise missile attack on Syrian gov't forces

And here's another interesting perspective ‘Chemical Weapons’ media propaganda in US, UK is designed to hide the truth in Syria

Weren't the Rebels already caught using Sarin gas back in May and trying to blame it on the Syrian government? This is all a setup and once again we are being played. Interested to hear others' thoughts. I am hoping against hope that we don't make this a partisan issue - if it was not obvious in the past administrations, it should be obvious now that there really is no difference which party is in control because neither are really "in control". The results are always the same. I've had enough of ALL of them.

Shit's getting real, as they say.

I have no frickin clue why we continue to involve ourselves. Let em go. I don't care if they nuke each other in fact.

Although, at least Obama _seems_ to want to hold out for a UN resolution. That would be at least an improvement from our usual MO...

The UN resolution is a rubber-stamped process. For the first time Australia will be the President of the UN Security Council on 1st of September. The Australian

Here in Australia we are about to elect a new Prime Minister on the 7th of September so it appears the current government will be keen to make a name for themselves in the last week of power.....I'm sure they will see this as a chance to divert attention away from domestic problems......besides we always do what we are told by the US government :)

Yeah but Obama is a moron............He wants to talk everybody down....That approach does not work. Have you seen the thing where they have gassed many people. At this point it is a humanitarian issue.

You do know that they could attack us as well

Gas, nuke, machete, whatever. It's seriously not our problem, and we can't afford (quite literally in fact) to make it our problem.

We've proven time and time again, we don't make friends by doing this - in ten years, there will not be a line of folks wanting to thank us. We'll just be the asshole again, and have spent several years worth of GDP to achieve that glorious status.... Fuck that, let China or Russia solve it.

Do you really propose that this is a slightly remote possability?

The mentality that this statement implies is the same mentality that promotes paranoia and fear mongering.

Well, to be fair, it's not just a possibility that they will attack us, it's a certainty that they will... If we involve ourselves in that mess.

Right now we have no responsibility for that mess, why we'd want to involve ourselves is beyond me - it's almost like we're the Jerry Springer nation - if they're drama, we're gonna stick our nose in it, and the messier it is, the better.

You misunderstand what I am saying. Granted the Syrian military attacking the US....that's a joke. If they were able to smuggle weapons, explosives, chemical weapons, etc. into the US they could reek havoc

I also agree that we cant afford it

You know, calling people with whom you have a difference of opinion "moron" says far more about your own mental condition than that of the recipient of your insult.

And, today, they have no reason to do that, and are happily blowing each other to bits. (See Liveleak.com's Syria section for highlight reels)..

But let me ask you, what could possibly encourage them to unite (sorta) and attack the US? That's right - ding ding ding, a fucking invasion or any real level of US involvement there.

It's a bit like being in a very bad neighborhood and seeing a man yelling at a woman and smacking her around. Sure the RIGHT thing to do is to go stop it from happening - but in reality, the fucker's probably going to stop for just long enough to shoot your ass, then carry on beating the woman while you lay there bleeding for your efforts.

No thanks. No dice. Not a good deal.

With this logic there's no reason to wait to invade every other country out there as well. Preemptive strikes. Good thinking.

Well, actually, it's anti-American, but... Here's the thing, our entire legal system reinforces the "only have something to lose" aspect of involving oneself, and even the police are very clear about helping others. You might be a hero, but you'll certainly be an idiot. (I say this as a many-time idiot myself)..

Furthermore, history has shown us, with grand clarity, how well these middle east affairs have been working out for us. The pattern has become fairly evident in my view.

Cowboy, you can be honest buddy! I know you don't really think we should invade, you're just bored and need good targets that shoot back, and free explosives/rpgs. I dig. ;)

I agree with you Cory but what I don't understand is why does America act as if they are the Police of the world? and why does Australia think they are the little deputy following you into all sorts of conflicts that has nothing to do with us?

WWI and WWII. We got addicted to being the hero. In those cases, maybe we needed to get involved. Maybe. In these cases? It doesn't seem that there's going to be a winner - just lots of death, and plenty of enemies to be made.

American politicians, not Americans. But that doesn't stop the average Australian for hating the average American.

Hey... I totally agree that it takes time to plan an attack etc. I do respect that. Syria has recently released chemical warfare on its people. So we leave it... allow their govmt to kill their citizens....I am against that 1st off. If some of that same crap winds up in enemy (insurgent)hands.....then we have a prob here at home....or in our ally countries like england, germany.....etc
The fact they are just killing themselves over there....they can easily do damage here.....

FYI...I was not calling Obama a moron because of this 1 item that has happened. Everything this man has touched has turned to crap and has hurt America. I have accurately predicted every thing that has happened over his terms. I would also like to add that I did not vote for him either time because his views are trying to kill america

I'd love you to start a thread on this (don't want to derail this one).

My question is: What has Obama turned to crap that wasn't already headed to crap? He's done next to nothing as a president, which in today's environment is a pretty good track record in my opinion.

[Break it off into another thread.] But really, Cowboy, you can't post a thing lately without mentioning how much you hate Obama. What has he or this administration done that's been so bad? (Cannot include Congress.)

Really? Are you sure? Should we rely on media reports or wait for the results of the UN investigation? And did the Syrian gov't use it first or did the U.S. backed rebels?

I'm not saying I agree with them, but there are many people who believe the powers that control the U.S. are intent on going to war with Syria, fully believing it will pull in Iran and apparently not believing or not caring that Russia and possibly China will be pulled in as well. Think about this: Obama had stated several times that use of chemical weapons would be a "crossed line" and by most reports, Assad has been winning - WHY in the world would he blatantly do the very thing that would pull in the world's most powerful military against him? Doesn't add up. Like I said, I don't necessarily believe conspiracy theories, but there is a lot of information people are not getting and a lot of disinformation we are getting.

IMO, it doesn't matter - like Cory says, fuck 'em. It is not our mess, not our problem. Not that it matters what Cory and I, or any US citizen- or Congressman or Senator, for that matter think - the decision to go to war has become a unilateral one - how did we, the people let this happen? Feel free to go back and say how Bush did it or at least lied, etc. - I won't disagree. The powers that be have set us up in a polarized two-party system so they can spew out lies and disinformation and just keep us fighting amongst each other while the leaders all march to the same tune and serve the same masters. It is OUR responsibility as individuals not to just accept what we are spoon fed, but to seek out ALL information and evaluate them for ourselves. CRITICAL THINKING is required of each of us and that means to consider ALL sources of information and don't dismiss what could be FACTS just because you generally don't agree with the messenger and certainly don't sit there sucking solely on your preferred partisan flavor of "news" - EVERY SOURCE has an AGENDA / BIAS - thoughtfully and objectively consider everything that you agree with and everything you adamantly disagree with and make up your own mind based on logic, reason and facts.

...sorry. off my soapbox now.

I know the list. I was hoping you would explain what your personal feelings were on these issues.
