A new thread and idea...

I think it would be nice if people would spend a little time commenting on the photos in the challenge...even if it were a one liner. Every comment helps individuals understand what was liked/disliked about their images. One great way to get better is to receive constructive criticism.

Just post your Votes and Comments %

I was doing this for a while. But since Dallas had his accident, I haven't been able to. I try to commit to at least 10% per challenge.

100% is not always possible for me. Often I try to comment at least 10 to 20%. And I pay special attention not to only comment "my" top entries, but to pick some out of the different score ranges I handed out.

When I was new here, someone started a thread with a great idea that I like to employ from time to time: Comment on the first 20 images you see. No matter if you give the image a high vote or a low vote, you must comment on those images before voting on the rest.

This is a fun exercise that really gets you thinking about constructive and useful comments.

So does everyone see the same 1st 20 images? If so, that only helps those 20.

What if everyone could choose 10 positives and 10 negatives to comment on? This would kind of level it out across the board. Not everyone would pick the same photos, and it is to their taste/distaste.

It does take a lot to comment on every photo. Just finished. It took me hours to do. Maybe every photo is a little too ambitious. What if the thread were called something different but allowed people to post their comment percentage?

You have rated 87 of 87 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 87 images (99%) in this challenge

Don't forget to mention that his comments are always honest without tearing you down.

Each member is presented with a randomized ordering of the photos for a challenge to be voted on.

I do it sometimes

Im still fairly new here and I learned early on that some people here have very thin skin.
If you comment and it's not nasty but negative you could get your nose bit.
I pretty much stick to writing what I like about the image, I figure if the person wanted a critique they will ask for it.
I also don't tell anyone what score I gave them.
That's just me.

Awe, thanks guys and gals! I appreciate this place so much, it's just my way of giving back.

Don't let a little nose biting frighten you away from commenting. I had some people negatively react to some of my negative comments, but as they got more from me they started to appreciate that I did have something to offer (normally).

One other piece of advise I can give, do a 100% comment once. You will find that it gets hard, but also that its very rewarding to try to find something meaningful in each image.

There are people with thin skin, which makes me wonder why they are even here.
Why come and enter challenges if you can't accept the result?
People like my image? Great.
People don't like it? Fine.
People want to criticize it? By all means, go ahead.

I came here to get BETTER. To have fun. And that's what I do.

And I have gotten to where I try and leave meaningful comments.
Something with depth, explanations. Just saying "nice image" doesn't say much. So I try and say WHY it's a nice image, why I like it.
Same goes for images I don't like.
And if people don't like what I have to say, there's a PM button... use it.
Or, get over it. It's an OPINION!
