I resemble that remark.
(and I agree, as I sit with a 2.9 right now) |

Each interpretation is different - thank heavens - it would be so boring otherwise.
Let's take each entry on its own terms. |
what difference does a little bit of white make compared to a little bit of Red or blue?
I think the black and white photos emphasise the "Black" more than the ones with a little bit of colour. I am sure if Black and White photos were not allowed then that should have been mentioned in the challenge.
There are a lot of Black and White entries...meaning a lot of people read the challenge the same.

Of course its allowed to enter a b/w shot but I think the reason some people may see a b/w conversion as a bit of a shoehorn in a challenge such as this is that then you can take a photo of any colours in the shot and just convert to b/w in such a way that the main colours look darker than they are.. where as taking a colour photo of a black subject against a black background (or a white on white) requires more skill in your choice of lighting and camera settings to achieve a good result with good details than doing a b/w conversion, thats just fact. Of course being good at converting to b/w properly is also a fine art, but not as hard as getting the lighting and settings just right for shots like these.

lets say for the point of argument, that the challenge says- take a photo of a duck.
But yet, there are photos where there are only little pieces of duck, or perhaps no discernible duck.
IMHO, the voter needs to get out of the "aha-caught you! no duck! or dnmc- not enough duck! mode and think to themselves, why is there no duck? why is there only a little piece of duck?
It seems the photographer doesn't give a duck!(sorry)
But ask why is there no duck? the photographer made a mistake and put no duck? the photog is a scofflaw? you caught the person? You are telling them something they don't know?
Maybe not. Maybe there is more to it.
