It's a reasonable nit, though. I should have said "This is the USA"... Still, God did shed his grace on we, and crowned our good with brotherhood etc etc...the song sez so ;-)


Since we're nitpicking for fun - it's "God shed his grace on thee" :D

Gimme a BREAK! I'm paraphrasing to bring the song into the current context (note also "our" for "thy") which is a legitimate artistic leitmotif (or something equally profound).
