Just wanted to give another round of applause to the SC. When was the last time we had a DQ in the top 5? For a while there, it seemed like one or two ribbons would get DQ'd every week, and Photoshop dominated the forum discussions (not that politics is much of an improvement).

As a new guy, I'm wondering...what were the rules before? Was everything basic editing only? Did this mean that there were no 'member challenges'?

I can only speak back of about a year... but when I first joined, member challenges were also basic editing only. Then they made Member Challenges advanced editing, but the rules were not quite as clear as they are now. Somewhat recently, the advanced editing rules were re-written.

Speaking as one of the 'victims' of that rules-tightening, I would largely agree. It perhaps should be said that only a very few shots were DQ'd for the 'integrity' reason - I think two of Aleks' and one of mine. Most other DQ's, I believe, remain because of inability to provide valid originals or specific rule breaking, either from ignorance or mistake. But the SC would have to confirm that suspicion.

True, but the point is that the digital art debate has definitely died down since the Advanced Rules were clarified.

Ha! Well, no-one noticed during the challenges - only once the processes had been explained :-)

Or those who are tired of seeing digital art winning a photography contest have either become apathetic about this site becoming just another digital art site -- or have simply moved on.

That seems to be a very negative view, unless you have something to substantiate it with.

I certainly haven't noticed any of the good photographers here vanish, and realistically with so many members would not know about the rest.
