I have tried doing light graffiti. I sort of managed a basic "love heart" plus a pretty lousy spider and other very basic shapes, but the exercise gave me full appreciation just how tricky this is to do.

I have NO idea how something as complex as this would be possible the "normal" way.

What is the trick here? Is it actually possible do this the basic way - by holding a light source in your hand(s)?

Build a wire structure, put on all black, choose a dark night.

Then, use a flashlight to trace it, with the lens between the wire and the lens.

Finally, you can use other lights as needed for mood lighting.

I think these are hand drawn.

For that, the answer is the same as that which was given to the man who asked "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?"

You could be onto something.

I feel that if it IS a wire structure, it isn't a detailed one.
However, it was a very VERY basic outline - like just one line for the head/spine/tail, then four sticks for legs, then there would be a guide to help keep it all together, yet still be mostly free-hand.
