If you're referring to the number of participants and the kind of pictures one would expect from a hidden gem challenge, then i would say..YES! Seriously? Only 178 images? In a hidden gem challenge? And IMO, the quality of the images is not even close to the quality of the previous hidden gem challenges.

No, since this is a scores thread, I was referring to my score

I guess it depends on what you consider to be a gem of an image. I had quite a few shots I believe would have popular appeal but I entered a shot that I find very appealing hence its score.

The gem seems to be so hidden that nobody notices it :-)

Woohoo! Got a comment, and a nice one too. :)

An insult to big to bare, sad sad sad! Are we looking at least before we rate? This image I state with confidence is a jewel if you see what you, I bet, you never noticed. Sorry guys, this leaves a taste.

Now I know why I should not vote where I play. If I use the 'scale' I am being hit with, 80% of the entries would have scored between a 3 and a 4. Makes me want to stay away. Maybe I just forgot how ruthless this society has become.

I almost didn't enter. I know in advance the votes are going to tell me that almost nobody likes it but me.

Is it better to work alone, never showing my work to anyone? Or is it better to show my work to the voters & receive a rating that tells me to find another hobbyaudience?

I'm depressed. It's true I'm no good at photography. That's why I do it. It's a challenge. I do better at what I enjoy more, which is turning my photos into abstracts.

My entries typically wander around the 5.+ for a while, but end up at 4.+ to finish.

"Audience" is a better choice of words. Even if it's an audience of one, which harkens back to your first statement about working alone.

Point taken. You're right.

I think that for a challenge like this one, voters have much higher expectations than in any other. Which in my opinion is very understandable. A 5 in this challenge, might have been a 6 in another.

All the problems started when Eyefetch closed down and they all migrated to DPC.

IMO I don't have higher expectations. Because why would a gem remain hidden all this time? I am interested to see what people found in their archives to spark their interest in their own work. Speaking for my own experience, I liked mine then as much as I like it now, there was just no opportunity to enter it until now.

wow... don't understand all of the low scores -- just looked through the challenge, and I thought it was a very nice set of images! After all -- most of us have entered the best stuff already in challenges or free studies.

Going back later to vote.

I have absolutely nothing to complain about as this is doing better than expected.
