Congratulations to everyone on your top 25 finish -- guaranteed with only 24 entries. Between weather and basic editing, this was definitely a challenge.

For the curious, the previous smallest number of entries in a basic editing challenge was "Painted Face" in Nov 2009, with 30 entries. Challenge with fewest entries ever was "Vanish" in April 2007 with only seven entries (expert editing).

I'm really surprised at how well this is received (so far).

I am new to the site, this is only my second challenge entry. But, I'm surprised by how few submissions there are. The first Night Sky challenge had 43 entries, and I assumed that 'basic editing' rules would draw a broader crowd and therefore more submissions. Any reason this challenge had so few entries?

I though I would score MUCH lower than this.

Welcome to the jungle!

There are many reasons for the low entry turnout
1. Back when the first night sky challenge happened, there were a lot more active members
2. Getting good weather is tough for this
3. Night time doesn't happen until SUPER later in the far north
4. Basic editing is actually so limiting, that many people around here (including myself) find it to repulse rather than attract
5. The challenge description was too specific. This turns people away from entering because they don't want the wrath of DNMC votes

I agree. I had to cope with cloudy skies for the entire week. We get afternoon thunderstorms regularly in the summertime and the nights are usually very cloudy.

Please, Twenty-Five Entrants, don't be offended when I say that this gallery of images is the most boring gallery of images I've ever voted on.

I suppose that that's why I didn't enter it myself... I knew my entry would also be boring.

I did vote and ended up with a 6+ voting average for the challenge, but it was only because I voted higher than I felt like.

Ugh.

Kudos to you twenty-five brave souls.

I see we are down to 24 images.
There was an image in the challenge that I thought was impossible to take and it had nothing
to do with the editing rules.
It was a decent shot and I gave it a fairly high vote but it did make me scratch my head.

One image that used to be present has gone away, shrinking the "competitive" field. I commented on all entries, so mine must be the only one with no comments. Given my low score, maybe I should be glad people are keeping their thoughts politely to themselves. On the other hand, I now have what may be my first "wish list" selection. Guess it is time to find out how those work.
