Did I miss an explanation for the details on the various scoring systems?

N/M
Saw the separate threads. Might want to give some links for folks. I follow the forums relatively carefully and I wasn't sure initially what you meant.

I will try to clarify as questions emerge to make as clear as possible. They are all essentially the same system that was used before except for the way the ties are determined:

In system 1, instead of the 5% the tie is a N% corresponding to the challenge with lowest numbers of entries. The threshold then will change from week to week, but it will be the same for all the matches in a given week.

In system 2, instead of the 5% the tie is determined using the formula provided. The threshold changes for each individual match. This system is the only one that doesn't allow ties between images in the same challenge (at least the images had actually tied in the challenge).

In system 3, instead of the 5% the tie is determined by using fix brackets defined by the challenge with the lowest number of entries. Everything within a bracket ties with each other.

i have a problem with all three, what this discussion with ties? the problem with the old scoring is that if entries fell within a threshold that was set too high, then ties were given out improperly or worse losses, you should be allowing ties.

the whole exercise here should be most accuracy determining the threshold between two entries, and that's option two.

Any change we can get some simple examples?

Something will be posted shortly .. an example from past events that would show the scoring options in a way that even I can get it.

By voting are we confirming our interest for the next season or will that be done elsewhere?

We will have a confirmation thread as before

How do you get in if you were not in the first season?? I can't find an answer anywhere.

Teams stay the same? Or how is that working...I hope we aren't going to re-invent the wheel every time.

If by "reinvent the wheel" you mean "form new random teams every time", I disagree. That's exactly what I'd like to see. Much more chance to get to know and work with new people - and less chance of "cliques" forming.

Edit to clarify

I guess to be clear...I hate making the logo (NOT that I've actually made one yet)...but that's a pain to come up with a new name, logo and all...

I like the part of meeting new players/people...I'm getting to know the members one league at a time...lol

I hope it will be new teams too.

I love my teammates, but TPL might get a little boring if we win every season. Time to randomize.
06/03/2013 11:53:59 AM · #20
Teams will be randomly selected as before, The whole idea of us running this is to get the community together and random teams does a great job of it IMO

For those of us who are new to TPL, can someone explains how the teams work? Not the scoring, but just the whole thing in general. And... is anyone welcome, including those of us who don't regularly score very high? Sounds like fun but I'm not sure exactly what it is or who is welcome. Thanks!

basically you are on a team of 6 people. your scores are pitted against the other team. top 5 scores are taken and pitted against the the top from other team, based on placement. the two highest score go against each other, then the next two and so on. highest score in each individual match wins points and the teams total up the points, each match is worth the same amount of points.

each team will probably have a wide range of talent so you will most likely be going up against someone of your skill level, maybe not each week but quite often.

you get bonus points for the whole team participating so its worth it to submit even if it doesn't match.

Honestly its more about the experience. i had a load of fun going over my entries with my teammates and critiquing theirs before submission. Those less skilled looking to improve will surely get more of a benefit out of TPL. Even if your images are great your input to your teammates is just as valuable.

even though we debated the scoring during last time, it never got heated, we all know this is a fun little game. i cant speak for other teams but ours worked together great and no one felt left out or superior.

Everyone is welcome.

If you haven't been on a team before. Sign up on the above link. If you don't understand or can't answer the questions I guess leave it blank. You can look at the top scoring pictures for each person on the league in the individual week score threads (see above). You can choose the photo you like best it.

As to the team...there are 6 members on a team...if you decided to do this the team that you are on will depend on you to enter at least 1 entry per week. So the team can get a .05 bonus point for participation. (to me this is important). It gets kind of tough some weeks to do an entry...as life tends to interfere, this is the biggest pressure of the league (IMHO). I try to enter as many of the challenges as possible therefore giving me a better chance at my best score for the week.

You go head to head with your score against the other team of 6 players (i.e. if you have the 4th highest score for your team, you are competing against the 4th highest score on the other team).

You have all week long to find a picture and edit it, discussing it with your teammates in a private thread. What is wonderful about this is that your teammates take a look at you photo and will give you and honest evaluation of that photo and what it needs to improve it(sometimes you need thick skin for this). Or for that matter which one of your photos that you captured that week works the best. Sometimes it's pretty complicated (this is the learning part) other times its as simple as doing a different crop to make it a great picture. We share links to all kinds of articles/youtube video's/tutorials. It also involves a large volume of e-mails back and forth - so be prepared. All of us that participate want to learn and improve so it can really help you grow if you use it that way.

The teams are randomly done so you have a wide range of score averages...thus giving balance to the team(s). This way no team is top heavy in the ribbon placements...they are spread out. Like Mike said...everyone works together...leaving no one out.

Hope that helps. I'm sure others will chime in.

Thanks, 21.gif Mike and 21_F.gif Ja-9. How long does the DPL last?

I was wondering how many teams used the DPC PM system as we did/do.

We would create a new "thread" for each challenge. We also had a thread for scheduling and scoring, a thread to bitch about Garry behind his back, and for the last three or four rounds we made trash-talking threads, in which we included the opposing team of the week, so we could intimidate each other.

Our threads always became quite hilarious.
