Ok, Heida’s the Burn Queen, Jacko’s got the Macro Mojo, DrJOnes titillates with a capital TIT, labuda has a black belt in the Digital Arts…

Who else has found their photographic niche? A style or direction of photography that they either are good at, or they like doing, or they strive towards? I haven’t found mine yet, but I have some ideas...

I wouldn't go so far as to say 'niche' but my most successful work has been my industrial black & whites.

Also my favorite subject and style. This is what i took when I first started photography and before I found DPC.

The burn tool was the first thing I learned.

I probably shouldn't be the first to reply yet as I'm new and haven't found my niche yet but I would love to take pictures like jjbeguin. Pictures of everyday object made beautiful through trained and enthused eyes.

Also fromoaznicul (or however it's spelled) is my benchmark of the type of street photography I'd like to take.

Edit: I guess I'm too slow to be the first to reply!

I'm a long way from being able to consider myself good at what I do but I think my niche in terms of my strongest interest and also in terms of what I seem best at is definitely travel photography.

I'm currently making use of some of the resulting images to raise funds for a wildlife conservation charity. To see (and perhaps buy) some of the prints, please click on the link below. All images with DSWF in the title are being sold for charity.

I hope to find my niche, but I havent found it yet. I seem to prefer symetry so I take alot of pictures of buildings and structured things. Lots of symetry there. I'm not a famous widget photographer or anything like that yet. ;-)

Yeah, You're good at those. And the way you do them reminds me very much of the "real" sky in The Matrix... You (probably unintentionally) evoke thoughts of a post-apocalyptic world with your pictures, where Industry has gone on, unmanned, since Humanity inadvertantly destroyed themselves...

(Edit: I guess you can tell I like Sci-Fi, cantcha?:)

I want to specialise in Festivals and Gig Photography:

This line of work particularly appeals to me, as I'm also a musician.

I don't think I have one, I just shoot what the challenge asks for mostly. Does anyone out there see something that I don't, anywhere where I specialise?

On a purely personal note, MOST but not all of the subset of your images that I like the most are NOT close studies.

E.g.

I also like the quality of detatchment in these shots.....

I'd love a niche!! If anyone has an extra one laying around, send it my way, would ya? ;-P

Just kidding of course, I'm so all over the map it's not even funny. I've always liked the idea of doing children's portraits, but then I'd also like to get into something more edgy like one of my favorite photogs, David Lachapelle so go figure... Hey, I told you I was all over the map. :-)

By far, not by any means perfect, but I'm working on it.... (yes, I know they are all the same kid... but another ones on the way to add a little variety. :D)

I feel more at home when I'm shooting landscapes/cityscapes although I'm trying really hard to diversify..

Photography seems to be, as an aquaintance said after she saw my Deviant Art gallery, my niche...

I'd like to say my pet photography is my best. I find it easier to get emotions and such out of them than trying to draw them from arcitecture and stuff... I also really enjoy candids of people or "portraits" of friends.

Well, thankfully, I think I've found my niche. However, i still have a long way to go before I'm really good at it. I don't know exactly what to call it, so for now let's say it is people oriented photojournalism.

I guess that my "niche" is my least favorite type of photo...Portraits set to the challenges. 5 of my top rated 6 shots and both ribbons have a portraiture aspect. I would much rather shoot almost anything besides people but so goes it!

Well, my niche is no secret. Similar to what Kavey does, I have hooked up with the Long Island Lighthouse Society & use my images to help them raise funds for lighthouse restoration. A % of all items sold with an image of Cedar Island Lighthouse (my March Free Study subject) is donated.

That is the lighthouse they are currently rebuilding.

I also donate imaged items for Fibromyalgia fundraising Auctions since it's something I deal with daily. Last Year's Fibro Auction donation
Lighthouses are great for symbolism ;)

Looking at my profile page, I'd have to say pictures with blue sky in it.

I suppose mine is Landscapes, urban, all types.
I am not up there with the greats but my pictures give me a lot of satisfaction.
