fredmiranda.com has some photoshop actions to remove high ISO noise from Canon G2/G3 images. It costs $12, which I knowisn't a lot, but I'm trying to avoid spending what I can (since I am planning on school soon, and am thinking about that new digital cam ;)... so does anyone have some free actions that work well at removing ISO noise, or know of a website that describes how to do this? I downloaded the demo of neat image, but unfortunately it will only save as a highly compressed jpeg, and removes more detail than I'd like (this may be a side affect of any noise reduction process I'm sure)

I've used the demo version of Neat Image for some very high iso shots I took. It did an excellent job.
To save in Tiff, you have to pay for the "Home" version.
You can also control the amount of noise removed by playing with the controls.
I've done a lot of searching on the Canon SLR forum at dpreview, and everybody swears by NI. I'd recommend that you get the home version, but it will cost you, $29 I recall.

i also swear by NI. Using the controls properly, you can get exactly the amount of noise reduction and sharpening you want. There are a few tutorials on the NI site that explains how to use it properly, because that makes all the difference. I dont have the home version yet, but i'm planning to, because at 29$, it's pretty darn cheap, and it can work with any camera, so your money isn't lost when you get an other camera.

The later NeatImage demo lets you save JPGs and Bitmaps. I like it, don't use it that much, but it's good.

actually, i have the latest demo.. and although BMP, TIF and JPG are in the list of Save types, it still only lets you save as a jpg.
//www.neatimage.com/featuremap.html shows what each version can do.

Ok, I guess I should play with the demo a bit more.
