I mean it's not like some people live with slow speed connections and pay per byte downloaded with monthly limits... oh... crap.... I guess not in the US generally so must be fine.

It will work fine off line, just like it does now. It only checks in with the mother ship once a month to validate the license.

Not saying I like it. but it's not an online application. It is a local application that needs a connection occasionally for licensing validation.

I'm wondering if you could install it on an external HD or flash drive, so that it's not tied to any one machine, as long as it's connected to the license validation server ...

Good question...

CS5 throws a fit at the third installation. I upgraded to solid state drives in my desktop, and reinstalled. Then I bought a Sony Vaio Duo to edit away from the desktop. Adobe was not pleased. Fortunately you can de-authorize and installation, and fortunately I still had the OS and Photoshop intact on the old mechanical drive, so I was able to put it in, boot, and deauthorize so that I could then install on the new computer. Glad I did not simply re-format the old hard drive as I had intended. Which is really a good lesson for any sofware you have. Make sure you know what it takes to move it, before blowing out the old stuff.

Nope. The media it's installed on is irrelevant. The installation is tracked in the registry on the machine.

The take-away here is, whenever possible, deactivate before decommissioning, and reinstall then reactivate on new hardware. Where it's not possible, as with a hardware crash, Adobe has, in my experience, been very helpful. They will reset install counts when needed. Just make sure that the old installation *cannot* be used again, 'cause that I am *sure* they would not be pleased about, LOL!

Right now Adobe's pleasure is about #108 on my list of top 100 priorities ... :-(

Of course, I'm still using PS 5.0, so they probably are't too pleased with me anyway ... :-)

At first I thought WTF! But now, as long as quality remains, it seems ok

You can still buy CS6 here. But since they are trying to steer you away from CS6, I wouldn't expect there to be a free trial anywhere.

For any vendor, not just Adobe, the point of a free trial is to get you to try the latest version before you buy it. CS6 is an old version. I wouldn't expect Adobe to have a free trial of an CS6 any more than I'd expect Microsoft to have a free trial of Office 2007. The CC free trial is here.

Honestly, I can see someone who has an earlier version upgrading to CS6 (I did), but someone upgrading doesn't really need a trial version. I don't see the point in spending nearly $700 for a version of CS that's basically unsupported. You can pay for CC for several years before you hit the break even point on that deal, and have the advantage of all the updates, including support for new cameras that you won't get with CS6.
