I'm pretty sure that it was a program that used the IR port of the PDA to drive a camera with an IR remote. Since the 10D doesn't have a IR port, unless you add that capability or build a custom cable to do it hardwire, I don't think it will work.

if u have a PDA, you can find a remote program that can learn codes from almost any IR remote. you would have to have your hands on the remote first so you can program the PDA

Actually, all you need is the IR Remote software for PDA (as long as it will accept configuration files)

Here's a link to a config file that will mimic the functions of the RC-1 remote.

//www.bahneman.com/liem/photos/tricks/digital-rebel-tricks.html

Read the whole page, its got a few really good tips on cheap alternatives to various equipment as well as a link to a Russian firmware hack for the Rebel/300D that will unlock some if not most of the 10D's software features (i.e., Mirror Lock Up, ISO 3200, ect.). Use the hack at your own risk. Using hacked firmware will void the Canon warranty.

Also, not any PDA with IR will work as a remote control. It has to be a 'Consumer IR' format, I think...otherwise the signal won't be strong enough.

At least I think that's right.

I think you're right thatcloudthere. I have a Zire 71 and the IR on it is pretty strong, but my first palm (Palm III) had a horrible low-level IR port on it. I had to be right next to another port to even attempt to communicate with it.

Anybody hear of such a thing for the D70?

Also, try plugging in a Nokia headseat with a 'mute' button for a nice trigger release cord :)

Okay, I'll answer my own question:

You can get a ccf file here: //www.kemps.plus.com/nikon.ccf

Then all you need is a remote control program that will read the info about the signal from the .ccf file. One such program for the Pocket PC is here : //www.pdawin.com/tvremote.html . I've not personally tried it (yet) but I found both these pieces of information in the D70 forum on dpreview so I think that it works for somebody.

Keep in mind that the CCF format is a dead one and has been replaced by the PCF format. Both of these are Philips formats designed and intended for use on their 'Pronto' line of universal touchscreen remotes. The PDA hacks, such as PDAWin and TotalRemote are exactly that, hacks. Not to say that they won't work, but the IrDa standard does not call for such powerful infrared transmittal as would be found on those remotes.

All of that being said, I'd be curious to know if anyone gets this to work with the Rebel.

This forum for D70 will get you to and where ya want to be. Still looking into the TV remote control.
I have been using the PDA one for awhile now. The trial period is almost up. )C:
