I'm really not doing this as a business yet, but I keep thinking about it. I do however do it as a side line every once in awhile when people ask. I have my sitting fee set, and I have my prices for prints. And I probably do a shoot only once a year, because I don't advertise and didn't particularly want to do it.
However, one family for whom I've shot a couple of times gave my name to someone who is in desperate need of senior pictures. However, they're only need is to have the photo to send off somewhere to print announcements.
She's way behind schedule. She thought it was taken care of through the school and the senior pictures through there. But there was a mix up.
If I was doing this as a regular business, I think I'd be creating and offering my own announcements with the picture as part.
I don't have the time to do/create that.
This could be an opportunity to get into the senior photo business for next year. I don't want to overcharge and lose this one (she already said that they were considering just doing it themselves, so it will be easy to lose it), but I also want to be a business and not give away something.
I can certainly have a reason for "giving her a deal", because I too have a graduating senior for which I have no pictures or announcements yet. (We really need to do this, soon)
Any idea of a reasonable way of handling this? It's my own fault for not having this service in place, but I hadn't planned on starting yet.
Advice would be greatly appreciated -- I need to get back to her this morning with a price for her to be able to use the photo for announcements.
