Here's a research resource for the Internet Meme challenge

Although this page is OK there are areas that are NSFW but they are labeled

An extra rule allowing text could be useful
04/19/2013 06:24:49 AM · #3

Sorry I don't get it...

Is it a free study?

Wiki definition here.

Can somebody spell it for a non-native speaker?

Thank you.

Are we supposed to photograph ONLY one of the well known memes, or can we make up our own, too?

It would be awful if it had to be a well known one, because I bet that many of us (like myself) live under a rock when it comes to "internet memes" and wouldn't recognize most of them if they bit us on the nose!

I see memes on Facebook every single day, I have yet to figure out what any of it means.

No idea. We are supposed to "photograph an internet meme" or... create a new one??
And it must be based on an existing one or not necessarily?
04/19/2013 08:29:45 AM · #12
Maybe someone can post and image as an example?
04/19/2013 08:30:10 AM · #13
I've been on the net since 1993 I have no idea what to photograph for this

I thought it was a good idea as it covered "Vadering," which had been requested, but it isn't limited to Vadering.

Think planking, think the UC Davis pepper spray incident, think Harlem Shake.

Or just pick an iconic or at least memorable moment in time, or a ridiculously fabricated fad, and spoof it, or spoof it further. The fodder is endless, so get creative and have some fun with it.

a meme (pronounced Meem) is a cultural item that is a known commodity. memes have been around for as long as we've had any sort of communal culture.
for example, the saying "that's what she said" is a meme, internet memes rely on images with text referencing something else, so the additional rule of text allowed is a MUST to actually allow us to have a challenge of internet memes.

one of the most popular ones on the go right now (polite ones that is) is grumpy cat. google it and you'll see a LOT of examples. for pet memes, check out icanhazcheeseburger, meloncat, kungfu cat, ninjacat, etc.

i already know what i'm doing for this challenge, it's an older meme and it will likely be low-voted, but i'm going to go for comments here.

yup, those are internet memes

I think the UC Davis pepper spray incident is the best example.

Take a look through the photos and you'll get the gist of what this is about. But it could be anything.

Godzilla's an icon. But a godzilla meme could be people running and screaming from an urban scene with a photoshopped in dog breathing fire, the title could be "Dogzilla is coming! Dogzilla is coming!"
or if you're Gyaban, you could have a picture of Godzilla in a forest spraying water, with little fire-ember people running saying "Godzilla is coming! Godzilla is coming!" ;P
