Hi all, wondering if there is anyone who can help me with regards to remote triggering of my camera (Canon 7D). I have a Yongnuo RF-603c plugged into the hotshoe, with the shutter release cord plugged into the cameras port.

I then have a second separate RF-603 that im trying to use to remotely focus and fire the camera. When I push the button down halfway, the camera will focus as expected, but when I fully depress the button to get the camera to fire it flashes red and nothing happens.

Both triggers are on the same channel. I just don't understand why I can remote focus, but not fire?

Any ideas?

..

Strange - have you made sure that you don't have a bent pin in the body?

Could just be a bad connection cable too - it sounds like your third pin or wire is not making contact to me.

I don't know, never tried this.

What I will do first is connect one trigger to the body and try fire it directly. And then I'll try fire it remotely with a second trigger.

At least this way I can find out where the problem lies.

try using a regular cable release as well, or just shorting all three pins with a bit of foil.

I had a regular cable release that worked in my 550ti, but doesn't seem to have right connector for the 7D. Its a small headphone jack connector - can't seem to find a home for it on the 7D.

I'll check the 3 pins when I get home.

Try it on manual focus as well as it won't fire if it can't af

Focusing but not firing is a weird one to chase down. Have you tried swapping lenses or shooting with the lens on manual focus (in AF it thinks it is missing focus-won't fire) or cards (thinks card is full or missing-won't fire).

Sometimes when I have multiple flashes and remote firing I have assumed they are the issue, and find the same result when I just try to hit the on camera button. To diagnose, shut down all the remotes and try a shot, then add them in one at a time until you find the issue.

Do you have a BG-E7 Battery Grip?

They won't work with my 60d if Live View is on.

yes, I do Richard. Not sure I can see the connection though?

Thanks for the other suggestions. I will try MF as well in case its a focus issue...although I could swear I did try that already. Need to doublecheck.

So I went home and tried connecting just one remote to the camera via the cable. Turned lens on AF and MF. Pushing button halfway gets focus (in AF) mode, but still can't get the camera to fire.

The three pins in the camera are fine, not bent or broken.

Run out of ideas. Is there a setting in-camera maybe that needs to be changed?

Nay, Captain. Fires just fine if I use the cameras shutter button.

did you short the three pins?

I have used rf602's like this to shoot remote with flashes. If using flashes you need the following.

2 triggers, 2 receivers. 1 trigger and 1 receiver on a different channel, these are used to fire the camera whilst the other set fires the flash.

To fire the camera, hold the trigger and connect the receiver to the camera with a cord into the remote port (this cord came with my purchased).
Then, to fire the flash, you put a trigger in the hot shoe and a receiver on the flash.

Cheers

Hi, I'm just having exactly the same problem on the same gear.

Garry could you find any way to fix it ?

I think the 3 pin plug has bad quality.

Nope. I could get the remotes to fire the flash no problem, but could never get them to fire the camera.

Did you ever try shorting out the plug manually?
