Hi Everyone!

I'm new to DPC, and I'm really looking forward to get to know the community and make good use of your knowledge and experience. My previous experience with photography involves a couple of disposable cameras at the age of maybe 10. Since then I've enviously watched others taking photos with their 'fancy' cameras. I’ve also spent countless hours looking at and admiring images in books, magazines, blogs, forums etc..

I am now 30 years of age, and after months of saving and reading multitudinous reviews and forums, I’ve bought my very first camera – a Canon EOS-5D Mark lll. I am completely aware that this is not an entry-level camera, but I am hoping that lots of enthusiasm and practise, feedback and assistance will enable me to master my camera. If you feel like it, then please check out my portfolio (it’s pretty small at the moment, but hopefully it will grow soon) and let me know how I can improve. I love constructive feedback. At the moment, I’m not too concerned about mastering post-editing process. I suspect that engaging in editing this early will distract me from first learning the techniques required for capturing a good image.

Oh! And by the way, English is my second language, so please excuse future misspellings or incorrect wording ☺

Cheers,
Arna Marie

Haha... thanks for the advice. I'm sure I say nutty things as well sometimes. I'll do my best to keep it to a minimum

Welcome, but the community would respectfully request that you keep your nutty sayings to a maximum.

I'm sure MAK means this in a positive light, otherwise I'd take offense. ;-)

If you decide you don't like your camera body, I'll trade you for mine, straight up. I'll even pay your shipping!

Hey wow, awesome post.

Welcome to DPC, I think you'll learn a lot here if you approach it with that sort of enthuasiam, just be sure to not let a few bad scores get you down, remember that you're here to learn, and that winning will eventually happen if you learn enough.

Otherwise, the best advice is to vote as much as you can stand to, since that'll expose you to a huge number of photos, and make you think about them (commenting REALLY helps this process as well)... Don't worry if you think you aren't 'qualified' to vote or comment, in fact, you're the most perfect possible voter and most qualified to comment as well. Why do I say that? Because, you have fresh eyes - you see things in the way that only someone starting out can see thing - that's awesome, and if you simply comment on what you see, and how you feel about the photo, then you'll grow quickly here, and make some good friends along the way, no doubt.

So, settle in, ask questions as you want to (that's what the forum is for), and don't worry about your English, it seemed just fine to me.

By the way, I like this shot:

Really nice feeling in the photo, love how the green draws the eye.

I can see why you were fooled into thinking this was Jeff's selfie. But you can always tell by the eyes :-)

Oh, and Welcome, ArnaMarie!
