Well, I'm sorely disappointed.

I been checking my pic for the Landscape Challenge throughout the week, extremely pleased with my high score and great comments. Everything was great when I checked this morning (around 11:00 AM my photo had a score of 6.6) I come here tonight (Sunday, 1/19/03 to be exact) at 10 PM, one hour before the end of the challenge, to discover my picture was disqualified because "rules stated no more than 2 boarders"

I was completely baffled by this, because I swear that I had only two boarders. I carefully looked it at my photo and discovered that there is indeed a tiny, black hairline on the inside of my white boarder.

I guess someone was paying very close attention to my photo, more attention than I even did! After 210+ votes and 30 comments, NO ONE NOTICED??? That really amazes me. If someone noticed this earilier and just decided to wait until the last minute to recommend disqualification, that would make me even more upset than I already am (I'm probably being a little paranoid here).

Thanks for listening, and in case your curious as to which picture I'm talking about, here's the link.

I read posts by other frustrated photographers being disqualified and now I know exactly how they feel. Just out of curiousity, has anyone else had a photo disqualified the last day or two of voting?

i've seen that effect on my own picts

it happened on mine when i created frames a section at a time using rectangle shapes on each side (using PS6) - the edges would feather light-to-dark to create "an extra frame"

i found that using the marquee tool to draw those rectangles, and then using the fill - would eliminate that feather

perhaps i should go read those "frame" tutorials to see how the experts do it"

What were the colors of your border?
Was it true black, or a shade of grey?
What was the pixel wide of your border?
What was the compression level / image size?

Check this discussion for the reason why I am asking:

this whole border bidness .....

Here Azrifel, you can see for yourself:

My Landscape Submittion

My intended boarders were black and white. The "third boarder" is one pixel wide. I zoomed in at five hundred and the colors seem to vary, so it isn't a solid color all around. The image size is 640x464. I'm not sure how many pixels my intended boarders are.

I did happen to see that thread. Mieka's photo appears to have the same boarder problem is mine.

Man, that was a gorgeous photo too Erin! I had given it a 10!

Sure hope this border issue gets resolved before voting next week.

Just to comment on this very small part of what you posted. The current DQ arrangement is that someone requests a DQ, then the various site council members have time to vote for/against the DQ - so there is quite a lag time from someone asking for the DQ, to the pictures actually being removed. So it wasn't someone being malicious and waiting as long as possible, it is just the way the DQ process works.

Whether it was a 'valid' DQ or not I'll leave to other threads, but I thought I'd try to clear up the timing.

Erin, if it's any help I think your picture is a scorcher and woulda made it into the top 5 no probs. Better luck this challenge :-)

Thanks for pointing that out, Gordon. I didn't even think of that!! I guess it was just a "heat of the moment" outburst on my part. =-)

I vote we reinstate Erin's photo. It is truly not 3 borders. I don't mind if it pushes me back to 49th from 48th place. It's a beautiful photo and deserves to be in her portfolio!

it's a shame that the picture was dq'd. I think that it is a top notch photo.
