Hi All,

I am trying to figure out a simple solution for invoicing my customers. Up to now I have been simply using an invoice template with the Numbers App from Apple (Excel equivalent). I don't do a lot of small jobs and for a while anyway don't see myself doing more than a few invoices per week. So the Apple app has been nice in that I can view/create/send copies from not only my desktop computers, but my iOS mobile devises as well. The biggest hassle using pages came up yesterday when I had to create an invoice with some items taxable and some not- the invoice template did not support this. I know I can figure out how to do my own custom template to do what I want, but before I do that I think I should check and see if there are better solutions out there.

I would prefer something that is still accessible from multiple devices and can store invoices in the cloud. This might be possible with Quickbooks these days. QB would also make things easier for me preparing for taxes at the end of the year and I am open to using it- especially if they have some good templates available specific to the photography business. I used QB for my Dental Lab business years ago and found it far to generic for such a specialized business. Maybe it is better these days for photography?

I have also heard about Bento for Mac and iOS that supposedly keeps track of projects as well, I'm not sure if its companion product Filemaker needs to be brought into the mix to do invoicing?
I'm interested in whatever "easy" solutions some of you may have come up with.

Thanks! -Brent

not being in the mac/apple world, i can't really offer any platform specific solutions. i would have to imagine that quickbooks could get the job done for you.

shootq would let you do it all i think, but its a monthly paid service. Personally i can't justify its use yet.

Thanks Skip, I may indeed look into Quickbooks. Also thanks Devinder, same as you I am probably not ready for such a large solution as shootq but it does look pretty cool.

I have a support meeting with some local photogs on Tuesday and will see what they are all using. I may have to do something with Bento as I mentioned and if I need to make a custom template I will share it with others.

ETA: Getting the bills to them is the problem so far Cowboy, threats have not been needed to get paid- yet! ;)

I do it the old fashioned way. I create my invoices in excel. Keep track of finances too.

And I may end up continuing to do the same but with a newly designed invoice template to handle both taxable and non-taxable items. Just want to see if there are better options that are still simple to setup...

Do you have Softline Pastel where you live?
we use that at my business and it comes in various packages from simple to advanced. It is a complete accounting package and can go from invoicing and customer balances all the way to trial balance and financial statements. Not sure if there is a Mac version. Should think so.

I used Quickbooks for my business (non-photography based). It has cloud capabilities, but I don't use cloud so I can't comment on that aspect. Other than that, I like it.
