Want to know who pays what. In response to the tumblr “Who Pays Writers” someone created an anonymous version for photographers: Who Pays Photographers?

I just want something to show the boss so he’ll hire you.
Help us now and we’ll pay you when we get rolling.
We just want to see what you can do.
We’ll build this cost into the next project we hire you for.
My personal favorite: ”This piece will be great for your portfolio.” Um, thanks. I guess you would know better than me what works for my portfolio.

When I get the "You'll get great exposure" line, I tell them I can get all the free exposure I want (and more) if I go outside without my pants

I can take the pictures for free. Delivering them, however, will involve a fee.
