I don't get it. It's not whether there are 13 or 14 cows total, it's that they aren't all the main subject. Just because they happen to be hanging around in the background, for me, does not satisfy the challenge. It doesn't really show 13 or make me think 13.

I didn't vote in this challenge but I definitely agree. Now it wouldn't been enough for me to vote it a 1 as a DNMC but I likely would have subtracted a point or two.

Challenge states must contain 13 of the main subject...doesn't say they all have to equally prominent. Anyway I am always wrong, we all know that now and my interpretation of anything is always wrong too, we all know that now too ...I get the message...4.8 was probably too much..you made me realize that now. Sorry that I thought it had redeeming qualities such as composition, processing and nice toning and good B&W conversion ect. Apparently not. Or if it has it is obviously not very important at all. I now think that it actually scored far too high and I can see it actually deserves a 2 or maybe a 3 at most. I apologise for having made this post and for having thought that it was on average a pretty decent shot. I was wrong, it's a rubbish shot as some here have already pointed out and I am sincerely sorry for having troubled you all. I promise all and everyone here...no wait...I don't promise...I swear to almighty God that I will never post here again on DPC Forums. And if there are people here which I am sure there are who would like me to permanently disappear from DPC with my crappy photographs and rotten personality then please let me know. I will not disappoint you I swear that too. I know when I am not welcome.
Yours very sincerely
Fred

What's the point in entering challenges if you don't want to be challenged? The challenge was a shot of 13 of a main subject. You can hardly call barely visible, background cows "main" especially when you yourself miscounted them. We all get bummed about shots we like scoring low, I know I have about a million times, but one shot that doesn't quite work for a challenge doesn't make a rubbish photographer. That's in your head, no one else's. I was just stating a simple observation, I didn't even vote in that challenge, nor did I express what score I thought it deserved.

No one gets to be awesome at anything by recoiling at every perceived failure. Steven King had YEARS of rejections, he had a spike on the wall and he'd just keep adding the slips to it.

Dear Fred,

you are obviously cranky right now, but once you get over this, do try and actually think about what has been said about your photo.

It isn't about 13/14 cows, your photo is about THREE cows.

Show that photo to 100 people, and I'm pretty sure at least 99 of them will say it is a photo of 3 cows. They will agree that this image is NOT about the grass, the clouds, the ear tags, the fence/building in the background or about those other few cows hanging around in the background.

Once you calm down, I'm sure you'll admit this at least to yourself. It is a nice shot, I like it, it just isn't about "13".

I suspect that Big_Round_Chancellor and theFREDfactor are the same person. I actually suspected that before the BRC posted.

That would be the "13 sows" thread.

Which one is posting might depend on whether the meds are working today or not.

All I thought was that it was not a rubbish shot. It is not a great shot and I never suggested that at all. I thought it a pretty ordinary shot but not a bad shot.
I thought that just because it didn't fulfill the challenge theme it didn't make it a rubbish shot like so many were saying. I never said it's a great shot at all, I even said I thought it was maybe worth a 5.3 to 5.5 at most in other words a very average ordinary snapshot. It wasn't about critique about the shot as a photo by itself....I can take that...it was that I wrongly thought it fulfilled the challenge theme because I thought it had 13 cows...and that I felt that people had down-voted it because it did not contain 13 cows according to them (and they have been proven right...it's 14 cows)
Now people have made me understand that it wasn't only down-voted because of not meeting the challenge but that they also down-voted it or agree with those that down-voted it because the image is a bad shot and not well executed. In fact I can see it now myself...it is nothing more then an average snapshot and I now consider that the 4.8 it scored is actually more then it deserved. I hope everybody will now leave me alone...please. I am sorry for all the trouble and distress I have caused you all. The vow I took will not be broken I swear. This will be my last communique with you all.
Regards and look after your selves. You are all lovely and wonderful souls.

Fred I prefer to think of you as the author of this image much more than as the author of your last messages:

This, and other similar postings are the very reason why I turned off the ability to check scores during challenges.

Perhaps we tend to view our own images in a better light than it truly is and feel slighted by what we consider "bad" scores.

Mind you, I so seldom enter challenges that I never truly feel insulted by the scores meted out.

Ray I do not feel insulted because I thought people found my image a bad image and I did not think my image was great or very good at all in the first place. I thought it had some merits but obviously I was wrong and I see that now. If you followed this post and all I said you would see that.
I thought (mistakenly) that the image was being down voted because people failed to see 13 cows. (Now it also has become apparent that in fact there are 14 cows anyway)
It never entered my mind that people also down voted the image because they didn't like it or it didn't appeal to them and I wasn't slighted because of that. I now see and have stated so in this thread already that I now also realize that it is a bad image and nothing more then a snap-shot. I have also apologized profusely and said I am sorry.
Why does everyone feel the need to keep on rubbing it in and keep on twisting my motivation and keep on putting the boot in? It's like many people here want to destroy me and my photography completely until there's nothing left of me. It's like many have taken it upon themselves to destroy any notion I might have had that my work has any merit at all.

Fred. Like I told you last week, the result of a particular challenge means nothing of how good or bad your image is merely how well you met the particular challenge. I'd just let this one go.

Thanks Mike...you are right. Also people don't seem to understand what I am trying to say even though I try hard most keep on misinterpreting my words.
Maybe I just don't know how to make myself understood...I don't know...I am going to try and stop caring.

That never works. ;) Paradoxically more caring usually does the trick. Calmly observing, giving care to yourself and others, etc.
