I tried last night doing my RAW edits in the LR as usual and moved it to PSE10 and applied the filters there...of course there wasn't a difference in the applications but I didn't get and Edit-Edit-Edit-Edit...copy either...so I guess I will use mine in the PSE10 application vs the LR....

Unless you genius's have a wonder fix for this...like some button choice that I'm totally unaware of in LR...(now there's a possibility...)

It's better to edit in PS...since then each Efex edit can have it's own layer.

But to get around the Edit-Edit-Edit problem in LR, just tell LR to edit the original, rather than a copy. (That won't work for the first edit from RAW of course, but subsequent edits will not create new copies.)

Yes, if you're using a handful of the NIK suite products in LR, you end up with a bunch of files which is quite annoying.

Oh ... I did install the entire bundle as a whole - no "piecemeal" installation done here.

Yes, I had what I think is the same exact problem with the standalone Color Efex 4 before the Google bundle. I found the answer here. I installed the latest graphics drivers, which helped some but didn't completely solve the problem, then I changed Color Efex to run with GPU processing disabled, which appears to have solved the problem completely.

Tried your suggestion and disabled GPU processing ... still hanging. Plus no luck in getting it to work in Lightroom 4 either (thanks for the feedback though Matt).

At this point I give up and will put the $149 to other uses. Thanks to all for the suggestions and help.

When you load the software and it asks you what to install it in as a plug in. Select LR4. after it finishes installing open up Lightroom and a photo. Right click on the photo and go to edit in and choose the Nik plugin you want to use.

Ha!!! I was all set and didn't know it (I had selected LR4 during install for plug-in). The "Right click on the photo and go to edit ..." wasn't something I was aware of. It worked just fine (no hanging, etc...).

Matt, you may have just permanently altered my editing workflow! :-) And kept me from funneling that $149 somewhere else. :-P

THANKS!

I've never used the software before so somewhere earlier in this thread someone posted some tutorials from NIK so I watched them to try and get a starting point. You may want to look back and check them out.

I had tried the Nik collection demo version, and when it expired, I upgraded and bought the collection.

Two huge problems now:

1) download after purchase only included Color Efex and not entire collection (I'm going to contact support for that),

AND...

2) Photoshop won't open. I get an install error asking to reinstall. ???? It has worked fine for ages. Just not after downloading the Nik collection link. (CS5 app was closed during download/install).

Anyone else have these issues?

ETA --- Resolved! I located a phone number for the Nik support (hard to find) and was sent another download link that worked. CS5 works again also... Whew.

if you are using PS it will be under window>extension>NIK Software, if you are using LR you will right click on the image and then export it to HDR Efex

has anyone done a single photo HDR?????? I didn't do a bracket shot (sigh)
04/30/2013 09:36:50 PM · #96
yeah with a single image its just doing tone mapping. You just lose shadow and highlight adjustments but not much
04/30/2013 09:42:23 PM · #97
Or take your image, do a +1 and -1 exposure adjustment. Save each as a TIFF along with the original and you have a 3-shot bracket :)

From Niks website:

Why is HDR Efex Pro 2 not compatible with Photoshop Elements or Capture NX 2?

HDR Efex Pro 2 is not compatible with Photoshop Elements or Capture NX 2. Neither application is able to support 32-bit images, which is a requirement for HDR imaging.

Atleast you can use it through LR
