It's Google, they are all-knowing, and are therefore aware that your photos are awesome out of the box and don't require editing.

LOL!!! But I use Nik on all my photos.... :-) (Great meeting you! - There's a picture of you in my portfolio.)

I've had all the Nik packages for ages/years and paid for upgrades to CFX 3-4, SFX 1-2, HDRFX 1-2. About £700 total. Does someone like me get anything back from Google? I've had no emails.

Me neither, I have been submitting for software upgrades but only getting paid offers.

I received the email as well. amazing...

Anyone ever use Niks Sharpen or Define tools? I have them, but never really played around with them.

I'm just starting to. Dfine actually seems to be quite a good denoiser for my purposes, and it may make the most-used of my Topaz tools (DeNoise) redundant. It's fascinating to me how quickly (and how thoroughly) Nik has replaced my former workhorses, the Topaz products, in my workflow. I still use Topaz Simplify and Clean a little bit, but that's about it... Except for DeNoise, which may have just lost the race against Dfine...

The Sharpen tool I have not played with yet. I will on my duotone entry.

Enhancing Your Images with Dfine 2.0 and Sharpener Pro 3.0

This live webinar will really help you.

I've had Dfine2 for quite a while and use it on almost every image as a first step. (not legal for Minimal Editing ruleset here, though.)

Just received Sharpener Pro 3.0. ... Raw Presharpener and Output Sharpener. I think judicious use can be very helpful. Have just ordered some large prints on aluminum with the Output Sharpener applied. I'm anxious to se how those look when they arrive in a few days.

Interesting. In a recent tutorial there was a suggestion to use D'fine before all other filters.
This seems to work nicely, especially when I stack filters.

However, one strange thing: ever since the upgrade, when I apply D'fine (no matter when) it does it two times!

Not a real problem, (it's easy to just delete one) but still, strange.

I'll be curious to hear what you think of Dfine as compared to Topaz DeNoise Robert. I have had Dfine for some time and seeing how it does its job much quicker than DeNoise wanted it to work better or just as well. Admittedly my testing wasn't all that extensive, but when I used the two side by side Nik certainly took its time but seemed to preserve more detail. So DeNoise is the only Topaz product I still use save for occasionally using a light setting of Detail on images I have downsized.
I played with Sharpener Pro briefly and didn't really figure it out well so haven't been using it. Might be nice for large prints, so I hope to watch the Webinar.

I've had this problem for awhile with all of the filters, even before the upgrade. The filter would be applied twice. With color efex and silver efex it was a pretty cool bug, though, because it would apply the filter to the first result and the second result was even more intense. Many times I found myself reducing the opacity of the overdone second one and using pieces of it. I was glad the new install didn't fix the bug. :)

I downloaded this last night (the Google Nik package) and while the plugins load fine in PSP X4 they hang every time when I select ok or cancel after trying different filters, etc... Memory usage goes through the roof when I look at performance in task manager. Currently I have a couple of Nik products installed (CEP 2.0 for example) and they work fine. ???

Another question: I can't get the Google Nik plugins to load in Lightroom 4 at all. I thought they should work there also, yes? I was using the plug-in manager and tried to add them with no luck. Would get an error message "An error occurred while attempting to load this plug-in".

Also, please refer to Neil's post #46 previously in this thread. I'm pretty sure the collection is to be installed as a whole, rather than piecemeal.

Thanks for the heads-up on the webinar Richard :) Please do report how using Sharpener Pro on your metal prints works out. I'm doing metal quite a bit lately and am usually playing it safe but wondering just how far I should be going in regards to sharpening them.

I will report back, Brent. In theory, it should be a good thing to sharpen for the target output device. A photo printed (inks infused into specially coated aluminum sheets) on aluminum really shows detail. Of course, one doesn't want artifacts from over-sharpening.

I've used Sharpener Pro on my large prints for years. It works beautifully. The image on the screen looks crunchy as hell, way sharper than if I were sharpening manually, but the prints look great, with no apparent sharpening artifacts.

I have no idea what would happen with metal prints, though.

Thanks for the response Richard ... Nik and this Google bundle of it are compatible with Paint Shop Pro (I have used Nik and other plug-ins, Topaz, etc... all marketed as Photoshop plug-ins). And the site you linked to shows Lightroom 4 on the list.

Has anyone else gotten the plug-ins installed on Adobe Lightroom 4? Is anyone else finding this Nik bundle excessively heavy on memory usage?

Oh ... I did install the entire bundle as a whole - no "piecemeal" installation done here.

Yes, I had what I think is the same exact problem with the standalone Color Efex 4 before the Google bundle. I found the answer here. I installed the latest graphics drivers, which helped some but didn't completely solve the problem, then I changed Color Efex to run with GPU processing disabled, which appears to have solved the problem completely.

That was my experience when I used Sharpener the few times I did. When making changes on the screen, the image looked great, but when applied the changes and saved, the resulting file was horribly oversharpened, to the point of being unusable for web. Never used it since. Never tried to print.

No matter WHAT sharpening technique you use, if it's optimized for crisp, fine detail at a large print size then you reduce that same file for web display, it's gonna look deliriously oversharpened. That's why it's called "output sharpening"; it's highly size-dependent.

I have never owned or used this software until the "bundle" I bought it, installed it in CS5 and Lightroom 4 and had no issues. It does use some memory on first start up of the application, but once it's been used once I have no issues using it again and again while still in LR4 or CS5.

one thing I've learned is that instead of doing my Efex edits in LR, it makes a new edited copy with each filter application...hmmmm

I tried last night doing my RAW edits in the LR as usual and moved it to PSE10 and applied the filters there...of course there wasn't a difference in the applications but I didn't get and Edit-Edit-Edit-Edit...copy either...so I guess I will use mine in the PSE10 application vs the LR....

Unless you genius's have a wonder fix for this...like some button choice that I'm totally unaware of in LR...(now there's a possibility...)
