4.480 - 08/08/2002 - 3rd Challenge
4.862 - 07/17/2002 - 1st Challenge
I'm now on 121 challenges and haven't had a 4 since, in over 2 years. I think I learned my lesson :)

I like saying the word current. |

4.2
A bit of experimentation with blown out highlights and dark shadows coupled with a slight problem with the monitor.
meant to look like this..(doubt if that would have fared much better.)
4.7...No excuses, just c**p

My photo in my second challenge, "Once in a blue moon" got the lowest score that I will ever get on dpc hahaha...
4.810 - 44%
So, no more challenges for me if I want to be safe! hehe
And ofcourse I couldn't understand WHY my so very creative and original photo and piece of art got so highly underrated... why... why...? Oh, am I not the only one who thinks this way!? :-)

This was the only thing to ever drop below 4.
I guess it just goes to show that you can't always agree with the voters - although this wasn't the best picture I ever took it certainly wasn't the worst.
I think I got hit badly by negative votes from the "this doesn't conform to my idea of a portrait" because it didn't show a face. The lesson there is that having a slightly different 'take' on the topic than the voters hurts you worse than taking a bad photo!

Personally, I'd rather take a great photo that I personally love, and have people mis-interpret it against the challenge, and live with the lower score... than succumb to the sheeping of the masses and stamp-produce stuff that may be technically fantastic.. but personally and emotional devoid.
Or I could just be saying this stuff to mentally prepare myself for the future ;) |

one of the cool things about these threads is they do high-light images beyond the challenge.
one of the cool things about the challenges is that there are really two challenges: 1) to produce as technically flawless an image that you can (and that you love), and 2) to try to wow the masses.
i don't remember which thread it was, but shannon had a great summary of how his approach had evolved to where it is now: consistent top 10's with images he enjoys. he's a good example of meeting both challenges. |

i realize it isn't stunning, but i thought it was cool to have three views of the same object. the original, the shadow, and the reflection all in one image. |
