I want my bxw's to look more grainy, saturated and silvery...any suggestions?

And secondly, I tried shoot lightning lastnight for the first time and didn't get a thing...any suggestions there as well?

Do you have an example of what you have now and maybe a link to something that has the look you want? That would help.

To your question for the b/w, do you want it to be done that way post or preprocess? For preprocess graininess you just need to turn your ISO up over about 400. There is also a post process for it in Adobe photoshop in the filter section. Filter = texture = grain.

To answer the question about the lightning...first you need a tripod, then you need a low ISO like 200. Set the camera in the direction of the lightning, and depending on how much lightning there is will determine your shutter speed. To get your shutter speed lower increase your aperature. I have shot it before with a shutter speed of three seconds, and I've shot it before with one of 1 minute. You just have to bracket and experiment.
