Do they want volunteers? Don't think I've got anything in the archive that will challenge the art powerhouses of DPC this time.

This one doesn't have any provision for judging in the description, unlike those in the past. You're free, of course, to put together your own jury and have at it :-)

Dunno if they want or need volunteers, but possibly, as I believe some of the jurors have left the building. I just hope it is juried, and with the same dedication as they displayed last year.

Langdon can set the challenge in motion for DPC, but I guess it's up to the jury to organize and commit.

juries. juries. go. round up a few people and be a jury - vote individually then talk about art and give out some prizes. it's fun - do it.

What she said :-) If you're motivated, make it happen. It's an engaging exercise.

I actually took a couple shots last year just for this challenge. We'll see how it goes. FYI: I did notice the time frame of the challenge entry date is from February to February so watch your dates. Should be fun!

uh, yeah, right now it says from Feb. 22 2013 to Feb 28 2013. Pretty sure they'll fix it later.

I agree that this is a great idea, and I may give it a shot, but should we take this to mean there won't be one, collectively organized jury like there was last year?

Langdon has just fixed that.

In the past Langdon has asked me to organize juries in advance. He didn't ask this year. As far as I know he hasn't asked anyone else.

Make sure you check your 2012 entries! Stupid me just spent an hour editing an image that I had already entered last year! Doh!

Anyone want to look at my potential entries and help me choose before tomorrow night? (My membership expires tomorrow night, so I want to get an entry in, if I have anything up to snuff).

Thanks!

sure Larry, I'll have a look...though I may not be the best to pick for this challenge!

If this was a juried challenge, how does that work? The votes determine the popular ribbons, and the jury picks their faves?

Right. Challenge runs as it normally would, with votes determining who ends up where, but with a bit of a side challenge that all the entries are evaluated by a jury. Here's their thread from last year.

Right now it looks like this aspect isn't going to happen, which is a bit odd I think, as Neat, who was on the jury last year, started the thread to get it going again.

We had run a jury for earlier iterations of this challenge, and other art challenges. Always with Langdon's blessing, mentioned in the challenge description, and organized in advance. Unfortunately, the last time we did this there was a tremendous kerfuffle after the fact because one of the jury's winners was also a ribbon winner, and it was DQ'd for illegal editing. The jury was discussing how we would handle this, but some of the site members began making a LOT of noise (you know how it goes around here) and trying to force a resolution in the way THEY thought was most equitable. Since I was nominally the leader of this jury, I felt it was best that we go ahead and defuse the issue by pushing to a rapid resolution. But the pressure didn't sit well with any of us, less well with some than with others, and the bloom kind of fell off the rose.

Meanwhile, Skewsme had organized an independent group to constitute a second jury for that challenge, and they too gave out awards for their choices, and it's quite obvious there's no reason ANY like-minded group couldn't get together and constitute themselves a jury. After all, it's just an extension of the "posthumous Awards" concept, right? So I encourage any who are so motivated to do that, since she's shown the way :-)

Thanks for the info, Robert. I had no idea about that.
