What is the difference between absurd and surreal?
The English word 'Absurd' is described in the challenge description.
Absurd as art is a little different, I think.
I think, not sure, that it is generally humor. I think, for the most part, absurd photos should be funny.
Regardless, I think this is going to be a very interesting challenge. |

| Think of "absurd" as "ridiculous" and you won't be far off the mark, I'd say. |

the surreal is "super real", it stands beyond us somewhere, staring at us with its giant fish eye.
the absurd is foolish. it lies slippery at our feet. it trips our pretensions and assumptions. it makes no claim to live in our dreams. it lives instead within the gutter of our daily lives.
You might confuse the two because both assault convention, but they come from opposite ends. One is Romantic, the other Existentialist. |

You confirmed an assumption and expanded my thoughts on the subject.
I love how each answer is accurate in its own right and all are completely different.
Don, I was going to just put our dogs head on one of my kids and call it a day.
Now you've raised the bar and I am stuck.

Naw. It's all been done. Thinking of something that is absurd, but not a cliche, is not going to be easy. In fact...it's a challenge.
IMHO a simple shot of the front page of my local newspaper is sufficient absurdity.

One time I realized I'd broken a lens and I was about to get really upset and a chihuahua walked by in little booties on it's feet and a dress or something else and then I realized it wasn't so serious. Absurd is the every day in Korea. This would be so much easier if I was still there. ;) |

Why not make it a photographic challenge? I don't get people ho humming about not doing expert challenges. You don't HAVE to use all the rule allowances. :P |

This place is supposed to be " Digital Photography Challenge" and NOT " Digital Photoshop Challenge"
we all know what digital art is , and there is plenty places for it around.
this is just my opinion and I'm sticking with it... |

How many times has my age been called out on DPC... let me count. I'm not even sure what you are getting at here.
I just wanted to have fun with absurd photos! Use expert or don't. I don't see what the big deal is. A good image is a good image. |
