We've had a lot of calls for a no holds barred, anything goes Photoshop challenge. I decided to flip the coin. No Photoshop (or other image editing program) at all. You have to submit what you get straight from the camera. No cropping, no straightening, no levels adjustments, no nothin'. Admittedly hard to enforce ("They'll never know if I just..."), but then again, if you really wanted to, it wouldn't be hard to cheat in the challenges now so....

Hmmmmm... Just posted questions about how much Photoshop matters. I think this would be a great idea for the next they wanted to have something 'open' again.

I just submit my photos as is without using photoshop anyway, I'm too lazy to try and fix my photos.

It would be nice to see if using photoshop would really make my photos better.

They would need to be resized and saved at 150k, else the dialup folks would be buried

OK, OK -- resized and file size limited. :-) Unless we were really evil and just made everybody shoot at 640x480 (or 427). The other one that would be allowed would be a rotate so you could present a vertical photo properly.

Is shooting at 640x480 really that bad?

It is bad if you EVER want to make a decent print of that photo, or crop the image. I'd be upset if I could never print a great shot I took because I had to set my camera's setting to such low resolution. I think a limitation of re-size/re-sample and rotate is enough to make this a "straight photo" challenge.

Interesting issue. Maybe a Before/After image with the origional and edited side-by-side. Criteria could be either most dramatic effect/change or least amount of change. I think the before/after could get a lot of interesting photos. However, don't limit the software to Photoshop, there are other good applications out there for working with photos. Not everyone can afford $700 for the latest Photoshop. However, if you want to sell/present professionally, Photoshop cannot be beat, spend the money.
