I got a 5D Mark II this month, and... it started taking half blank and half pink images.

So... I thought it was my new lens.

I swapped lenses. Three times.

Still the same thing, but ... intermittently.

So... I kept turning it off and then on again... same thing.

So... I thought, "Duh! It must be my new super-duper CF card!!"

Nope. Swapped that out, too... still have PINK images occasionally.

What's up? I still have ten days of "return time". Is there any saving this?

I really, really WANT to love it... but... I don't.

Advise?

white balance? double exposure?

Changed WB... no double exposure... when I'm shooting all sounds as if all is going as planned... and then... I "chimp" and get...

lens one
lens two
lens three

Three different lenses... two different CF cards.

In the mean time, I turned the camera off.. then on... several times. It would take a few "normal" photos and then go back to the "Breast Cancer Awareness" Pink... so I would turn it off and then on again...

I'd change ... something... the card... the lens... the ... whatever... and it would take a couple and then ... back to pink.

I shot all three lenses in P mode... A mode... Green square mode... M mode... all gave the same pink.

It may be a bad sensor. Exchange for a new one.

Yes! That site had more of my problems posted!

Thanks, All!

I'm going in for a new one.

I bought the three-year warranty (I LOVE Best Buy's Black Tie Protection Plan... they don't ask questions... they just make it right!)... but I don't want to start off with something that's "fixed". I want it right to start off.

Have you updated to Firmware 2.1.2?
01/15/2013 07:44:27 AM · #12
but it would have worked so well for burst of color!! You should have waited until after today to return it... :(

I would try removing the battery and put it back. It is not the same as turning off/on.

It came with Firmware 2.1.2.

I took the battery out and in a couple of times.

I think it has to go back. *sigh*

THANKS for your help, folks!

Is all of your software up to date? This happened to me before I updated photo editing software to be compatible with my raw files

You deserve to LOVE your new camera. Take it back - within 30 days they should replace it, brand new, no questions asked.

Absolutely -- don't even question if there's anything else to check. There's definitely something wrong, and if things just aren't updated, they should have been by the company, and it shouldn't be pink.

You don't want to deal with this -- take it back and get a brand, spanking new, shiny one.

Way back when, someone gave me an ancient Sony p&s and it also took pink images. I can't remember why but it just did, think it was a hardware or firmware problem.

Anyway good luck with sending it back to Canon, hopefully you don't have to encounter the same problem 3 different times before they'll replace the camera!!

It's done! I took it back to Best Buy, and was not given any hassle at all returning it. They were quite cheerful about it all and ordered a new one to be sent to me.

And, I ended up $7 richer. :D

Life is good.

Found a Lowepro Passport Sling Camera Bag that was "open box" so it was only $42 instead of $62. (It's $40 plus shipping on sale at B&H right now, too)

So excited! :D

Howdy all,

I have similar problem. Bought a used 5DmarkII from ebay, with a new sigma lens from another seller, when they came a found out, that camera makes round lines around the pictures and a round "ghost" in the middle...Could that be from 2.1.2 firmware update???

Thanks

I doubt it. This sounds like a hardware issue. Without seeing images, it's difficult to say, but it could potentially be just the lens. Do you have another lens you can try? If not, can you take it to a local camera retailer and test out another lens?

Thanks for response. Will try another lens and another body tomorrow. Hopefully that will make sure whether body is faulty or the lens...But I think it's going to be the used body...Will let you know tomorrow...

Sounds very much like the lens to me as well... The reason is that the lens is the component that has inherently round parts - the body tends to be linear defects.

OK, sorry for being late few days guys. So the Body should be OK, tried it with Canon 50mm f1.4 and 17-40mm L f4, both worked perfectly with body on every fstop. Here comes the funny part - the "faulty" sigma lens seems to be faulty only with my camera, tried it on friends 5D mark II and it worked perfectly...and another thing, seems that it is not faulty, or it does not make those weird thing on photos all the time...Anyway, sent the request to the ebay seller and waiting for the response, hopefully will get a new one soon...
Thanks for the responses guys!
