I had forgotten that DPC didn't allow non-paying members to upload photos outside of challenges. Hope people are able to view this.

I love the lime Mark. Did you have the lime on a lightbox? If not, will you reveal how you made this image? I love that type of image and the one and only time I tried, I failed miserably.

I think your pic would even work with a tighter crop to just have the centre of the fruit without the rind and BG. There was someone who entered a Kiwi some time ago in a challenge with the type of crop I am thinking of ... no, the other way round, the Kiwi made me suggest you can crop your image tighter :-) (sorry, can't remember who or which challenge, just remember the image :-))

Lovely portrait. My only crit is to perhaps darken the right bottom corner.

For the background I used a piece of white cardstock and the lime slice was suspended in front it 12" or so. I place my flash underneath the lime slice and fired it into the background. I didn't take a set-up shot but I will try to later today and post it.

Oh clever! Thank you. I wouldn't have thought that is strong enough to shine through the fruit - clearly it is :-)

A genuine question for the people in this forum: when you use the adjective "scary" in a comment does it have a positive or negative connotation?
This pic got lovely comments:

Yes, my intention was to create ambiguity; to go into the world of the uncertainty , into the enigmatic way of shadows. Therefore the word "scary" might be an appropriate comment that I take as a compliment.
It seems to me though that in general, at DPC in particular, "scary" or "spooky" are not qualities of an image; that people prefer the happy, colorful images technically perfect.
I wish that I can accomplish a technically perfect scary image, spooky, eerie and disturbing, chilling, weird and mysterious and that all these epithets will be considered a plus of the image.

PS. This rant is not to disregard "pleasing" images.

Thanks everyone for the supportive comments. I believe that if you click out of the image you should be able to leave a comment in the gallery itself. I hate to highjack this thread with everyone's comments. :-P Thanks again!

I believe good photographs should elicit an emotion in the viewer. If an image is dark and its subject is "dark" (i.e scary :-)), I think "scary" in a comment is positive - after all, isn't that what you, the artist, were trying to convey? And hence you have achieved what you set out to do. I certainly would use it as a positive comment.

If of course someone writes something along the lines ..."its scary that anybody with such a good camera can still produce such a lousy photograph", then I would take it as a negative comment ;-).

Neither. 'Scary' is an emotional reaction from the viewer, not a comment on the technical or other qualities in the image.

I have updated my Week 1 & 2 images with the with the equipment and exif info as a few of you have asked about it. In case anyone was wondering why I shot them at ISO 200, tt was a mistake, never checked the setting and that is what I had last used. Had I been paying more attention I would have used ISO 100 and upped the flash power to compensate.

Here is the set-up shot.

FYI... I used a second flash to illuminate the set-up, it was not used in the original captures.

LowLight, Long Exposure #1 & #2

I love to move the camera around during a long exposure, looking for interesting abstracts. So, I started with that. My comfort zone. I have the tripod out (I found it!) & will use it next. I've been getting over the flu. That's my excuse.

I feel that i must just point out that there is actually no sky in this image. The bacground is actually a mountainin the mist! The mountain is about 2km away . The distance shortened by the telephoto lens. I would. Like some advice on preventing the mist
Looking like noise . I did run it through nik the iso was about 800 to try and get a fast enough shutter speed.

It's excellent Sandy. Send me a large TIFF per eml via the PM system and I'll have a go. I'll leave C and C for you on the shot itself.
