Watch live tonight. Slooh telescope has a live event if the sky's are clear. I've been out a couple times and not seen ISON yet.

How To Make A True-Color Landsat 8 Image

An excellent tutorial covering combining individual channels into a color image, and the use of Curves and Levels (and why you'd want to use both), with links to high-resolution satellite data to "practice" with.

Originally posted by Linked Tutorial:

Levels and curves adjustments both allow manipulation of the brightness and contrast of an image, just in slightly different ways. I use both together for 16-bit imagery since the combination gives maximum flexibility. Levels provides the initial stretch, expanding the data to use the full range of values. Then I use curves to fine-tune the image, matching it to our nonlinear perception of light.

If you are up early enough it is a good time to see a comet, ISON.

Thanks Jm. There was another one right near it in the eastern sky about a week ago, that was brighter than Ison, but it's been cloudy here every night.
The other one is near Regulus. I saw an article about it but have not been able to find that article again. I believe I saw it in Sky News, or Space .com .

Was up and saw Comet Lovejoy. Did a drawing, composite of a photograph and what I could see in the small scope. Couldn't see ISON, Fog and high clouds were just enough to obscure it.
Hopefully it will brighten even further.

Came across another tutorial on using Photoshop to create Landsat images from the public-domain data.

And a tutorial using open source tools ...

' Well, it took over an hour to download an "appropriate" data set, but those instructions seem to work perfectly ... though I haven't tried playing with the other bands (to create false-color images) yet. Here is a 100% crop, without the panchromatic (or any other) sharpening step described in the tutorial ...

This is interesting. Comet ISON interactive model, looks good for viewing the comet after it rounds the sun.

RIP, Ison. Nov 28 2013
I guess we will not be getting any spectacular images of this one in Dec. The Sun has trashed it.

Well, *something* came back out, but not what went in, LOL. Too bad we won't get a December show. But pretty darn cool anyway. We got to see the one and only trip that this one made in from the Oort cloud.

This could be good news. Fingers crossed.

Did the path change? From what I would tell, we should be able to view it in January.

Yeh, sure looks like it is curtains for ISON. Something survived, but it appears not for long. Truly, "what a long strange trip it's been."
