To all the rest of you- have fun. These competitions are an awesome way to meet new friends and stretch your photography abilities.

Awww, come on Steve, we can work around that baby ... :-). Imagine how many "ohhh" votes you'll get just with baby snap shots ;-)

Sadly DPC "ohhhhh" votes are about a 3 and below ;-)
If there is a team that needs one more and won't be annoyed with less than full participation then I guess I will be in.

Edit for typo

Jump in Steve! If we become teammates, I'll understand about the participation. I just had my 7th child on 12 Dec and I know how busy you can get with them. Think of us as your support group.

Do the organizers of the TPL have recommendations for participants regarding friend and foe voting?

I just want to point out the possible jeopardy to DPC membership of collusion voting. I'm not sure some newer members realize that collusion on image preparation and selection is legal, but that privilege should not lead to strategic voting.

Excellent thank you for pointing that out to the newer members that INDEED any form of voting strategy is rewarded with a BAN from the SC, hopefully as we have a nice mix of experienced members & new members this will not be a problem.

It would be a good idea for each captain to communicate to his/her team the following guidelines for viewing and voting:

1. As a team, we will share our images with each other in the preparation stage and take suggestions from each other for improvements. We will NOT vote on each other's images during the competition. Team members MUST show their entered images to the rest of their team even IF they have not shared them for the purpose of suggestions. It is CRITICAL that there be no appearance of impropriety.

2. Because we are on a team, it is important that we stop sharing our images with other, outside groups in which we participate. If your best DPC friend is now on another team, you should stop bouncing images off each other until this competition is over. It's important that there be no possibility of tactical voting, basically.

3. The real measure of our neutrality, as voters, will come when we compare the average scores, challenge-wide, against earlier, non-team competition benchmarks. We've GOT to keep voting the way we always have in the past. If it can be shown the average score-per-challenge has DROPPED during this com, petition, then it begins to feel like people care more about scores than they do about photography, and that's NOT a good thing, obviously. The images, on average, will get better: let's see the scores get better too :-)

that's a nice set of guidelines Bear.

Thank you Bear that is an excellent idea.

one question, if i vote and then find out afterward an image a teammate has submitted. is there a way to remove my vote for that image entirely? i know we can change it but can you take away the vote after you already cast one?

I have asked this in the past... I was told there is no way to take away a vote. So the suggestion to me was to ask the last day what their average vote is and vote closest to that. Ex - Say they are getting a 6.1xxx, give them a 6. If they are getting a 5.9xxx, give them a 6...

i'm new to this team thing but can't we just vote according to our interpretation of the merit of the image? like usual i mean?

Recommending composition, crop, processing also goes on in the team environment, so by voting on team members entries, you are actually almost voting for your own work...As MAK states, just don't vote on team member's entries.

ok. but didn't our resident math genius prove that's actually MORE detrimental to the results?

Maybe, but it's simpler this way. No ambiguity.

Mighty nice of you...

Don't wanna cause trouble... just didn't know I needed to do something other than sign up and we've been out of town and out of touch.

MAK? Is it too late?

If Peter is happy with that I have no problems with it, I will just swap your name for his.

I am happy to sit out. It is only fair since others had originally signed up.
