Understood. The AP has already dubbed it "the worst school tragedy in American history."

I'm speechless. It took me multiple attempts just to finish reading the news report. I will never understand the lack of human compassion required for someone to do this.

It doesn't matter, Giles, 22 elementary school children where slashed and stabbed in China today.

People will use anything, people are just evil.

It does feel like the end of the world when you hear this news

My deepest sympathy for the victims, family and friends.
Things like these should not happen. No reason can justify such an act.

Horrible.

We will never understand some things.

My thoughts go out to the families of these children, the friends, and everyone else.

Tragedy happens everyday. Sometimes by accident, sometimes at the hands of another.

I will never understand how anyone can take the life of another... especially a child.

I'm speechless

Indeed. And to befair, the UK may not have many guns but it has had it's own gun massacres and in schools as well.

Anyway, it's heartbreaking and awful.

Parents are picking up their kids at a nearby firehouse. All will get either the best or worst news of their lives. I cannot imagine the trauma of the surviving kids. Apparently the intercom was on during the shooting, with screams broadcast through the school.

CBS was wondering if it was the principal that tripped it to warn the teachers since it started in the principal's office. If so, it was an awful thing for kids to hear, but an heroic thing for the principal to do. It certainly was an early warning.

It would be easier to support the unlimited right to bear arms if these "shooters" would just get the chronology right and shoot themselves FIRST.

As a Dad of two boys in elementary it's impossible for me not to get the lump out of my throat.
The worst thing that could happen to anyone is to have to go through something like this.
My heart is breaking for these kids and parents.

I'm having a hard time turning the news off, because I want to hear the facts, but it's hard hearing the guesses.

They're saying the shooter's mom was a teacher at the school, though.

From what I have read, he killed his mother at the school and he especially targeted his Mum classroom.

His father was also killed.

Poor poor people

They're reporting the parent of the shooter was found dead as well.
