We're going in the spring. I've never been there! I've waited 40 years! (Not sure why it's taken me so long!)

I need advice though...we are not sure which hotel to stay at in Zion:

- Zion Lodge - only one in the park, recommended here: //www.sunset.com/travel/rockies/zion-lodging-00400000049962/
- Zion Mountain Resort - one of the travel people told my wife this was better than the lodge, better views, etc.
- Zion Canyon Bed and Breakfast
- Desert Pearl Inn, also recommended here //www.sunset.com/travel/rockies/zion-lodging-00400000049962/

We're going on a Road Scholar hike/tour of Grand Canyon, so most of our trip will be there. We only have one day each (and maybe an extra afternoon) at the other two. So much to take in, so many pics. What's your recommendation...especially considering I'd like to be able to take sunrise and sunset shots whenever possible...so easy access is great. I would think that would be in the park, but I am open to ideas!

Thanks!

I actually *like* the Zion Lodge, and there's nothing quite like staying IN the park. I've stayed at the Awahnee in Yosemite, El Tovar in Grand Canyon, Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone, the Zion Lodge, and never regretted any of them. They cost more, but the intangibles are exceptional. Of course, this was a long time ago, so something may have changed.

I actually Liked staying at the Zion lodge when I was there in 2001. We stayed in the individual cabins. I would love to go back there with a real camera. The Grand Canyon is neat and all, but that is a helicopter ride from Vegas, I would rather go east north and hit Canyon lands and Arches...

When you gonna be there? I'm planning on being in Zion at the end of March!

We actually camped while we were in Zion so I can't speak to the hotels. However, the shuttle system makes most everything convenient. Zion is gorgeous all over so it's hard to go wrong. Enjoy!

I will concur with previous comments though about the in park lodges. I went that route in Yellowstone (too cold to camp at the time) and since we always camp "in park" I imagine the benefits are similar.

Fair warning about Zion though ... one day is barely the zip of the iceberg. You'll be back. :)

We stayed in the Desert Pearl Inn last month and like it, nice rooms, great views and balconies

Was only there one day / night and struggled to find a good sunset / sunrise location because you are surrounded by large hills! Seemed to be a bridge looking through the hills, about 2 minutes into the park from the town / village where Desert Pearl Inn is, that people were converging for sunrise, though by the time the sun would be in the frame it would have been up an hour, but you may have got some nice light, I had to leave by 7.30am (or it may have been 8.30 local time as I didn't realise we changed time zone!!) to get back to Vegas and the sun wasn't quite high enough

We stayed at the Majest View Lodge in July.

//www.majesticviewlodge.com/

Very nice hotel. decent resturant.

We drove to the park most of the time. If you get out early enough you won't have a problem with parking. Wait too long and the parking lots fill up.

There is a shuttle that runs quite often from the hotels to the park. Then there's a shuttle in the park to take to the various hiking and observation points.

The Majestic View Lodge is the last hotel on the shuttle run.

Really nice views from the hotel and resturant.
