Thanks, rewound inside camera, the reel was stuck to the spool at the beginning so I didnt have to open the camera. Extracting later had to accomplished in a makeshift black bag. Dont remember the dog being in the itchycoo park shot. Its a set of stairs with fencing and open parkland overlayed. Had another look, it is a large rock to the right of the path in the sideways shot.

OK, so this is most of my first roll, Kodak Gold 200, Pentax Espio 928, no editing, shot in one day, starting with a visit to my iguana before heading off to the south end of the island and finishing with the usual miracle of les chiens qui marchent sur l'eau, which I think looks better in black and white, ars longa, annus brevus, Happy New Year all you film peeps.

Scanning is a slow thing on my old Canoscan 8400f, but I'm getting the hang of getting halfway decent results.

Well that is unless you hate the results, in which case then I'm not. ;-)

These are some leftover shots from earlier this year, 1st 2nd & 4th from infrared (Holga) gone wrong, 3rd Mamiya 7ii and the 5th from 645afd. I just picked up 2 x Mamiya 645 Pro bodies one with power drive, 2 x 120 backs, 210mm, 80mm, 55mm, 43mm C manual lenses, a flash harness, 2 x remote cables and 26 rolls of expired mixed 120 film and original manuals. Total cost AUD$482 ;) Plus I got a 150mm AF for the 654afd for $199 from Essex MA. Now I'm a certified complete idiot and loving it.

Don't give up on me! I am shooting some film just been horribly busy in the last 6 weeks.

for fun I picked up one of these things, now I just need to get the film developed. I think I don't have the patience for film, I want immediate results :) There is a place in Helsinki that develops 110 but it's not got very user friendly opening hours, so I'll have to mail it

Don't sell this short. I tried some basic processing. It's quite a unique and exciting image.

Ben would I be out of line posting some more or less "narrative" shots from decades ago?

No! Please post. Wickedly slow process, particularly when a set is lousy. I've been through a few rolls with nothing to post.

Tom's right, of course (about processing -- I still don't how exciting it is). I tend not to digitally process or post-process analog sourced images. I can be puritanical to a fault. But solargraphs by their nature require a hybrid approach, so I guess it's okay (!).

I still wanted people to see the original right out of the box (figuratively and literally). The only manipulations to the original were the mirror flip and inverted colors -- you truly do get a "negative." The problem with using levels or curves to bring up the contrast is the very limited tonal range of the scanned image. A 16-bit scan might have helped, but my scanner wouldn't have scanned the image in one pass. Scanning requires a lot of light, and remember these paper images can't be chemically fixed, so they're still sensitive to light while being scanned. The result is that each scan degrades the paper image slightly. If the scan head has to stop to "catch up" (presumably when having to crunch more data), then you get something like this, with a line across it.
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/76335/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1048116.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/75000-79999/76335/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1048116.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

In any case, Tom inspired to do a bit of work to the scanned image, so may I re-present my six month solargraph.

Why can't the papers be chemically fixed.? Is it because they can't first be processed in developer? Do you somehow lose the image in the developer?

Ben it's not old film. Just old negatives developed back when I had a home darkroom 25 years ago.

The Mamiya 645Pro goodies turned up with 38 rolls of expired film. This lot is Ilford FP4 Pro from 2003. The negs were covered in a fine grain, same with another roll of colour C41 (which I ruined enhanced by developing b&w - doh. I used tap water (forgot to get demineralised) perhaps that was it. The C41 was already in the camera. Used the 43mm f/2.8. Going to sell the cameras straight away, only bought the package for the 43mm, 55mm, 80mm & 210mm. Anyway these were all taken and developed within 2 hours after unpacking the parcel.
