So as I said before I think the best way to get this site going again is to help each other and build a sense of comradery that seemed to exist when I first joined this site a couple years ago.

Below will be a list of people available to PM most anytime to get help with challenge entries, or just photography in general, please reply to this thread and optional specialty for those who may be looking for specific help. I will put my name on the list first:

sjhuls specializes in portraits, stock photography, knows quite a bit about studio lighting especially how to make what you have work. uses photoshop elements for processing and is a intermediate to advanced user in it, also uses silver efex and topaz.
vawendyshe always have an opinion -- whether it's right or wrong, is always am willing to share it. Uses photoshop 6, silver efex, color efex, and topaz.
yo_spiff strong areas are: street portraiture, prefers finding his shots in the real world (as opposed to creating them in a studio). Great at using what is available to make a shot work, doesn't think it's necessarily to have expensive equipment to get a good shot. Uses Corel PaintShop Pro as main editing tool. Presently using version X4. Uses Topaz Adjust, Topaz Denoise, Nik Color Efex, Nik Silver Efex
tanguera Always available for feedback to anyone who wants it, especially regarding studio work.
Devinderknows a thing or two on the software/hardware end especially when it comes to PCs. Is quite capable of sharing his opinion on images, and pointing out what he likes or not. Majority of his work is portrait.
VenserStreet photography. Expert user of the GIMP. Gives brutal, honest feedback.
Ann specializes in wildlife/nature/macro. Good at using long lenses and color images. Good with PS and Lightroom, especially at making something look it's natural looking best. Available to give opinions on images.
skip a full-time professional photographer and has eight years experience in it. If you need help with the business of photography, feel free to give him a shout. He primarily shoot portraits, candids, stock, performance, events, and sports. very adept with lightroom and, with an inventory of over 900,000 images, has become somewhat of an expert at digital asset management ;-)
art roflmao ok Great! at photoshop, offers free wise-crackery, smart-assery, Godzillery and good for an occasional chuckle OR- help with photoshop, feedback, critiques, etc
minsophotoIf anyone ever needs help with strange bizarre macabre shots he would be glad to help ;) He is actually quite good at portraits even if they have turned a little bit on the bizarre side ;)
alexkcAlways available to discuss Photoshop techniques or lighting setups, especially portraits! Can also give advice on how to mangage a house full of seven kids ;)
cnovack balanced critiques and feedback. tries to see what the photographer/artist may be going for. Can offer feedback on composition and post processing.
MNetalways available to provide constructive criticism
RKTIs extremely picky about lighting, be it natural or studio. Open to anything really...just ask. Uses ACR, CS3, Nik Color Efex, and Alien Skin Exposure... also uses layers/levels masking quite a bit, esp. with my B&W conversions, instead of dodging and burning. She also makes her own textures for layering and such.
mike_311almost always on line and available to offer help.
coryBrutal feedback. Photoshop, camera technicals, glass and other hardware esp. Canon, lighting advice, wildlife photography, geology, construction, gastronomy, astronomy, chemistry, social advice, medical advice, nuclear engineering consulting.
cowboy221977 constructive critisism...
dtremainuses Corel Paintshop Pro X5, Silver efex, Topaz for editing (has been known to use GIMP in desperation). Probably most useful for feedback on your shot
Giles_uk I can offer advice on enterprise/government level unix servers, guitars and all things roadie related, construction, landscaping, paving, 4yr old sons, heavy machinery, oh wait this is photography related... canon geekery, fixing L lenes, persuading female friends to pose nude, boudoir/nude, aperture, cs6, full nik suite, topaz, landscapes, steve and robert have helped me an awful lot, time to pay back the little i know
CuttoothI'd be more than happy to help out with constructive criticism or processing tips. I use CS5, Niks CEP/SEP, and Topaz.
BeetleI decided that perhaps my biggest strength is being very patient and a good teacher, suitable for a real beginner.
Another knack I seem to have is the "MacGyver" thing ..... I often come up with solutions that are weird, cheap, home-made, unusual etc.
paynekjI'm a user of Photivo and GIMP, and mostly specialize in taking unintentionally boring photos.

I'm not around as much as I used to be, but it's still a huge amount. :)

I always have an opinion -- whether it's right or wrong, I always am willing to share it.

I use photoshop 6, silver efex, color efex, and topaz.

Sure.

I guess a strong area for me is street portraiture. I prefer finding my shots in the real world (as opposed to creating them in a studio). I am NOT good with artificial lighting, so don't ask me about what strobes to buy. I don't have expensive lenses and will be the first person to tell you that you DON'T need an L lens (It's a nice-to-have if you can afford it, though).

I use Corel PaintShop Pro as my main editing tool. Presently using version X4. I also use Topaz Adjust, Topaz Denoise, Nik Color Efex, Nik Silver Efex

Still experimenting and finding my way. Always available for feedback to anyone who wants it, especially regarding studio work.

I m usually pretty willing to help where i can. Relative newb compared to the heavyweights here and not nearly as much of a participant in the competitions, but I do know a thing or two on the software/hardware end especially when it comes to PCs. I m quite capable of sharing my opinion on images, and pointing out what i like or not. Majority of my work is portait.

I'm always willing to help.

My best area photographically is wildlife/nature/macro. I'm better at using long lenses than short ones, and better with color than monochrome, although I'm working hard on improving my B&W skills. I'm good with PS and Lightroom, especially at making something look it's natural looking best. I can give opinions about things like studio lighting, tone mapping, and photo art, but I probably can't give much tangible advice in those areas.

i suck at challenges, but i am a full-time professional photographer and am in my eighth year of this gig.

if you need help with the business of photography, feel free to give me a shout.

lol. we're all quite proud of your acheivements, but until you're a 2-dimensional life form with the width of a single pixel, they shall continue.

You could probably trim that down to this: Venser Brutal. :P

Drat -- when I saw that Art had posted, I was hoping he was offering to help! Every time I've tried a godzilla shot, he's already fried my subject before I had a chance to get off a shot!! I'm about ready to give up. :(

Hey - it might be muddled and buried in gibberish, but I did actually offer to help. :)

You need to jump in with a Godzilla shot when he hasn't thought of it. That's how I do it, just sneak it in when it's not expected.

I don't wanna be rude.

I like the general idea. When people asked me some advice, I always helped him/her.

But this is still a contest site and if everyone knows everyone's entry, all this mechanism doesn't make sense... IMHO.

Therefore, I'm willing to help all the ones who need my help, but DPC should remain a contest site.

By the way, I meant Godzilla has fried my subject, not Art. I need godzilla lessons!!

I agree but I don't think what is being suggested in this thread will really affect that. Not that many people will be messaging others that don't already, I think this is mainly to let people who haven't done it know that it is available I know several members have helped me along the way (not sure what they are thinking now lol) and I think this is just letting others know. Hopefully it will have a few results, mainly more people will enter challenges and the quality will increase which will drive everyone to push themselves more.

Not sure I can give any advice on photography, but I have 7 kids and toddhead is my best friend so I know a little about patience. :)

Always available to discuss Photoshop techniques or lighting setups, especially portraits!

You may as well just say you have eight kids.

I fully agree with your sentiments but .....
if one pays attention, they should be able to pull out 15-25 entries in every challenge anyways. I don't see how helping a couple more will alter anything.

You can put me down for balanced critiques and feedback. I try to see what the photographer/artist may be going for. I can offer feedback on composition and post processing.

I am always available to provide constructive criticism (as some can confirm) but my PP sucks and I am totally out of ideas at the moment! ;)
11/20/2012 08:47:10 PM · #25
I'd like to help, but am not to sure about what specifically? I rarely score high but I always try to be original and stay true to myself...I know, that sounds dorky. I'm also extremely picky about lighting, be it natural or studio. I'm open to anything really...just ask.

ETA: I use ACR, CS3, Nik Color Efex, and Alien Skin Exposure...I also use layers/levels masking quite a bit, esp. with my B&W conversions, instead of dodging and burning. I also make my own textures for layering and such.
