So I tried on two different computers to post a reply (funky internet issues) and now I'm on a third and tired of retyping the same thing again so I'll leave it at this:

DPL! DPL! DPL! DPL!

:) I was thinking more in the lines of: Not entirely impossible, but extremely difficult. Pulling teeth may be less painful.

But since I'm not putting much into it, you will never hear me complain.

A new suggestion as well, if anyone wants a big change I'd like to throw this out there.

Something to help us learn to create an image series. I think we have a bunch of unrelated challenges and I at least seem to have created a collection of hodge-podge sort of nonsense that isn't cohesive. I don't know how this is possible aside from the side challenges in the threads but I have a basic idea:

Month-long series challenges.

For example: January is colors month. Then submit your 3-5 best shots (maybe a triptych if creating a multi-entry challenge isn't possible) as a series for voting. Some people maybe would do a color a week and have a red, green and blue shot as their entry, or maybe someone else does a series of just super colorful images, etc. And we judge a body of work, not just a one-off shot.

LOOK, it's obvious Langdon either doesn't have the time, or desire, to make changes to dpc. It works pretty good just like it is. If you don't like it so much, move on, there are other sites out there for you to choose from.
Please quit the bitchin. It just drives others away who are checking it out and makes the old folks uneasy. Use it like it was designed and follow the challenge topics. This "out of the box" crap is bs. Follow the topic and enjoy, or don't enter. Do a lot of the same people win? Yes, but they are pretty dang good too.
Have a nice day.

I can't think of any successful business or website who's credo is to sit idle and do nothing, not one. The wheels might turn, but every so often you have to rotate the tires, change the oil and whatnot.

I think you could look at MySpace as an example of where this is heading. Sorry for the truncated argument but as you know, the interface doesn't really work on phones and my longer message was lost, so once it ate the longer message. I have up.

that does it, if no changes are made I swear to GOD I will enter another challenge with a shirtless picture of myself and NO ONE wants that again!

Apparently you didn't read all your comments.

I used to be sooo involved on this site. Like 3 yrs ago. It was getting so bad it was the only site I went on pretty much. And then the challenges started to get uninspiring. The same people kept on winning (which most of you have to admit, they produce quAlity work). But they still continue to ribbon. Which yay for them. But now it's expected.

I agree with having less expert challenges. I think it evens out the playing field. And it becomes more tempting to enter. But most of these topics are so generic and boring. Unless you take them extremely literal but then you have 90 images of the same thing.

All in all, I personally will try to enter more. But maybe try more outta the box topics?

Well, I dunno.
I missed the first one.
Are you purty?

I feel that there are resolvable issues with the site, which are being brought out in this thread. There are no reason why anyone should leave this vibrant community, I am staying here and learning more.

If this was a free site, you would have a point. If you went to dinner, and the meal was off, or the service poor, would you speak up, or stay silent so as not to drive other paying customers away?

Perhaps you are good with your money buying nothing... I am not so inclined. Nor am I inclined to sit silently, while you decide for rest of us. If you are happy with what you get for your $25, good for you.

Actually MYSPACE is a great example... MYSPACE was the Social-King until Facebook came along... I really feel like DPC will eventually end up like this. Sooner or later, someone is going to come up with a site LIKE DPC, but that communicates with users, is attended to, and gives all the features that this site is demanding (A-HEM... Like DPL)... From there, evolution will run it's course.

And on which page is the response from Langdon on all of this? I seem to miss it amongst all the logic and illogical, all the good and the bad, all the positive and less positive.

MYSPACE is less of a comparison than EYEFETCH. There is more to be learned by the growth and fall of that site, for those who remembers it.

At least I wondered and got to see a speed challenge again.

Yes, Langdon, this ball is in your court, this is happening on your watch. Where are your rain makers of 5, 6 years ago? Please friend, DPC is such an important part of our lives that we urge you to take responsibility, yes, with your genius came responsibility, and make this work. Start by asking why this site exploded 2005-2007. Find the indicators for its steady decline in the years 2008 to 2010 and the sinking drama of the last 2 years.
Start by looking at who drove the site when it went well, and who is driving it straight to hell.

That call, my friend is in your hands. I did my duty; I paid for my membership. I should have a voice.

Best luck. You have much to do, quickly.

That much wisdom and good sense deserved being repeated.

Well said, Peter. I hope Langdon finally does something. Maybe he should sell this site to its users who will look after it with more love and care.

How about a new challenge today for a start?
11/23/2012 08:24:02 AM · #147
that's unlikely. we got a 7-day-long speed challenge yesterday.... that's good enough for both the people wanting a speed challenge and the void filled by not putting a normal one up today at the close of origins ;p

I am reminded of something that happens in neighborhoods. Someone moves in and they like it, enjoy the neighbors and the interaction. Then after a bit, they start to feel proprietary about things, and they decide that this or that "Needs to change". Never mind that nothing is different from when they moved in.......

But the longer things go on without this "needed change", the longer and louder the gripe. They don't necessarily do anything to rectify the issue, and they don't remember that some improvements, albeit small, have been made in the neighborhood.

So really......the question is.......what can you do, that you have control over, to make your neighborhood more enjoyable? Block party? Neighborhood cleanup? Help a neighbor who can use it?

Or......remember why you came to the neighborhood in the first place and be thankful.

Standing around grumbling about something you did for/to yourself a couple of years ago out loud is kind of silly, don't you think?

I see people here regularly getting way more from the site than what the paltry $25 fee entitles you to receive. You find friends, mentors, deals on equipment, advice on personal problems, coupons for special offers, and great leads for many things not even related to photography.

So you get a pissy comment once in a while.......so someone starts a fight in Rant.....big, fat, hairy deal.

Look what you can do to get more out of the experience that you've paid for.......if it's not worth it to you, vote with your dollar, but don't expect the site to change just to suit YOU!

YOU know who you are......

Actually, as time goes by, gardens and lawns need tending. Eaves need painting. New numbers need to be painted on the curb. Asphalt needs repaving. It's not enough to sit back and do nothing. There is work that needs to be done.
